Love "the fairy and dragon". Do you have any interest in designing tattoos for people?

regards,
Linda

I really like the way this one came out. The colors choices are near perfect! It was a strong pencil piece and an equally strong digital painting! It didn't lose any of the nice pencil feel the original one had either, just enhanced it!

Thanks Sandra!

while working on it I debated on deleting the base pencil layer but the more I worked on it the more I liked how the pencil layer tied the colors togeather.

And what you are doing is what the Classical Masters did. They would paint the piece in black and white and then put color over it. I've been wanting to try that technique, but I am such an improvisational artist and I would have to more structured in my painting.

So has the digital painting helped you with feeling more comfortable with color? I would love to see some traditional painting from you. I think you would like acrylics.

I love using acrylics and even oils, it's been several years since I have used them so all the ones I had are all dried up. Going digital was the most cost effective way for me to be able to do the work for the Orion's bell company. And this way I never ever run out of my favorite color and I always have every color at my fingers tips. I never have to buy or prep canvas and if I make a big boo boo it is easily gone with a click and doesn't disrupt the rest of the piece hehe.

I'm feeling very spoiled with the new technology.

I certainly can agree with you there! Cost effective creating! All for that!

I was just commenting cause I have never seen you do any traditional color work.....but that does not mean you haven't done it! I had a hard time with painting for a long time and avoided it unless I could airbrush a background and then add color pencils to it and I hate using airbrush. Then I started painting feathers and after all these many years of mastering acrylics on that surface, now painting is a passion, I -love- it. I love that hands on and the feel of an original painting digital can never obtain. I could never go full digital, I would like to play with it and will buy a Wacom tablet in the near future for photoshop purposes, but we will see if I do anything more. Though you do give me an ideal on what I could do with some of my old pencil pieces.

I hear ya!!!

I'll have to snap a shot of my last acrylic piece that is STILL sitting on my esile after all these years. LOL I'll get around to finishing it one of these days.
Nan bought a wacom bamboo tablet for about $99. and she just loves it. Plug and play!

But seriously the colors are so rich - lines so precise - is this vector?

Vector do what now???? bawhaha!!

nawww it is just such a huge file it was easy to keep my lines sharp. At 360MB it makes my poor lap top groan under the strain.

joeyv7 In reply to JadeRunya [2008-06-05 11:09:01 +0000 UTC]

whoa . . . how many inches does that make it? mine are like 36 X 29 inches or thereabouts - I finally learned to flatten them so they don't take up so much room. It's interesting to have the activity monitor on while I'm working in PS & watch how quickly free space is used up

JadeRunya In reply to joeyv7 [2008-06-05 13:39:01 +0000 UTC]

I always keep a file with the layers so that if I need or want to change something I can but when I'm done with a piece I'll burn it to a CD and delete the file from my hard drive to free up space. Amazing isn't it?, And here I thought I was set for a good long time when I first bought my laptop 3 years ago. DOH!

That's a good idea - thanks! I'll try that. I was kind of panicking for a bit about my iMac, it will only recognize 3 GB (or something) until someone explained to me that that is what 'external hard drives are for' Or suchlike . . .

LOL yeah I guess I'll have to start saving my pennies for an external HD, I'm sure my work will become larger and larger the more I paint hehe.
