Actually it was better the other way, and made more grammatical sense. 

When you've got a grammar nazi for a best friend, you best watch yourself. I can strike anywhere, any time.

You didn't use very good grammar there. 'The hair of both of them' is better than 'their hair' because 'their hair' suggests that they have the same combined hair, when it is replacing 'hair of both of them'.

Usually, the best way to learn grammar and spelling is to go through eighth grade English with a teacher who hates bad grammar, and read about a hundred books per year on average. 

And I'm not kidding about the hundred part. Read a book about every three and a half days. I do when I'm in school.
