Jokipals were not meant to climb mountains.

This was the one thought that persisted through Sal's mind as he did just that. Following a trail that he had come across earlier that morning, he slowly ascended the peak that his home had sat in the shadow of for all his life. In his entire 9 years of existence, he had never thought to explore the vertical giant. He hadn't thought to, because he wasn't MEANT to.
  Every step of the journey was a trial. His paws were scraped and sore after not long, but as he followed this trail that his gut was telling him, he noticed that this was nothing like his home.

The soft, grassy soil of his home turned into hard rock, and every step he took reminded him of its presence. It wasn't until he met with a wall, that he knew what he had gotten himself into.
Before him stood a cliff. In his lifetime, Sal had never even seem a cliff, but as he stared upwards, he knew that if wanted to find what he was seeking, he would have to climb it. When he looked close, he could even see the hint of claw marks, an indication that some other creature had climbed this cliff at this exact spot he was about to. Hopefully, he thought, it was something similar to himself in stature and physiology.

With one last glance behind him, back towards his home and comfort, back along the road he had been traveling since dawn, he took a deep breath and turned away, and back towards his greatest challenge yet.
