JiaYi's name became known during the Sunshot Campaign. Despite being of Wen heritage, he slayed his own father, leaked intel to the allied sects and provided creative military tactics from inside Qishan. A minor incident would reveal that he was biologically female, and afterwards became derogatorily referred to as "that crossdresser" or "the female wen dog". JiaYi personally tried to popularise the titles "Spy of Qishan" and "Wen's Renegade" instead but was ultimately unsuccessful.

Following the fall of the Wen sect, there was fierce disagreement in regards to his credibility. Some cultivators praised him for his contributions, while many rallied for his slow and painful death. By virtue of prior ties with the Nie Sect, his Jiang Sect heritage, and the merciful nature of the Lan Sect, Wen JiaYi was eventually allowed refuge in Yunmeng. Upon finishing a 100 day sentence of mandatory labour she was successfully recruited as a city guard. Later she would work her way into becoming an official for diplomatic relations, often travelling between cities.

After the death of Jiang YanLi and Wei WuXian, she disappears, grief-stricken, and roams the country night-hunting as a nameless cultivator. She only makes a public reappearance after hearing rumours of the Yiling Patriarch's return.
