Description
I have been meaning to do this for some time, as there are plenty of enemies that I want to cover for my next entry so I'm going to write about it here. So far, I only draw four of them as I ran out of space on my paper.
Sensor/Seth Turret (Fortress Wall)
A large metallic fortification equipped with four mobile turrets. This large towering structure was one of the many experimental defense systems that was originally built by the GX Army until they were overrun by the Red Falcon army. Sensor features a cross-shaped indented trail where the turrets move along, and a glowing core on its center which acts as its weak spot. The turrets alternate between positioning near and away from the core, shooting a single bullet simultaneously as they reach each position; they then move in a clockwise direction to the next one, repeating the process until they are either destroyed or until the boss is defeated.
Laser Chandelier (Ceiling Gun Turret)
A large mechanical device that has a select number of laser turrets affixed to it, depending on the model. Among the many specialized war machines that was originally built by the GX Army until its control system was hijacked by Red Falcon. It moves along a rail on the ceiling and shoots an array of giant laser beams straight down in a set pattern. The cannons can be destroyed individually, providing safe spots where the player can remain under during the encounter. The chandelier will move further to either side depending on the cannons it still has left, with the last of them always reaching the edge of the screen. The laser beams are shot in a right-to-left and then left-to-right pattern, one beam after the other, after which the device will make a short pause.
Destroying all turrets causes the whole unit to self-destruct.
Fortress Gate (Defense Wall)
The Red Falcon organization and similar opposing factions have built defensive structures designed specifically to prevent intruders from entering their territory. The "Fortress Gate" is the codename given to numerous defense mechanisms that were a common sight in enemy territory and it serves well enough in their purpose. The entire unit has been rendered impenetrable, save for its defenses. They possessed an sniping station at the top used by snipers to provide extra protection, a select number of turrets installed in the middle, and a glowing energy core located near the base. This serves as its true weak spot.
The original versions were originally man-made, but some types were reported to be reverse-engineered and modified with the use of alien tech or perhaps a fusion between the two. We have no idea one way or the other.
Final Gate (Entrance Security System)
Another type of Fortress Gate, this automated defense mechanism found at the end of the Hangar also guards the subterranean complex that leads to the Aliens' lair on Galuga Island. Appears to be similar to the standard variety in terms of armor and strength, but it lacks the sniping station and the mounted turrets in the middle. Essentially speaking, this serves as a part of the last line of defense for the Red Falcon's initial takeover of the island. It counts with a pair of mortar launchers on a side wall below ground level which launch bombs high into the air, and once they reach high altitude, they explode and produce fragments of shrapnel that drop down in a spreading manner. A glowing cross-shaped figure with an core at its center is affixed above the entrance and serves as the boss's weak spot.
Destroi (Earthquake/Repeater Cannon)
Turrets installed at the front of the gate, situated between the sniping station above and the glowing core below. These mortar turrets functioned as grenade launchers and are used for lobbing explosive bombshells from a high arc.
Wall Turret
Turrets that are emplaced on high platforms across death pits and affixed to larger defensive structures. It shoots high-powered plasma bullets one after another in a straightforward direction. Its attack range is limited, so it cannot move its gun barrel at any other direction.
Gulcan (Buried Surfacing Cannon)
An medium-sized defense turret found exclusively in jungles and mountainous regions occupied by enemy forces. These are initially concealed underground, until they rise from their hiding spot and then proceed to open fire. It initially aims straight ahead and can only move its gun towards higher levels until pointing straight up. These machines also appear to be linked to a subterranean base complex that connects all defense mechanisms and abnormalities have been detected in their control system. It was likely reprogrammed by Red Falcon to track down enemy soldiers and guard their territory.
Underground Turret
The "Underground Turret" is a nickname given to automated defense turrets that are another common sight within enemy territory. Gulcan is one particular example of this. Usually manufactured in limited numbers and installed to protect enemy strongholds from intruders. They will only open fire on enemies once they had entered their range. These cannons are covered in light armor plating that doubled as shields as well as camouflage to avoid further detection.
Shooting Eyeball
Techno-organic sentries shaped like eyeballs growing from the hard floors of the alien hives. These function similarly to the Underground Turrets, but are much rarer in nature. They will also reposition themselves before re-emerging from the ground.
Bubble Shooter
Artillery devices capable of producing harmful bubbles which are lethal to touch. They have an wide attack range because of this advantage. These are usually affixed to the ceilings and are often placed in narrow corridors. Bubble Shooters are installed in limited numbers and programmed to protect enemy bases from intruders.
Ceiling Cannon
Artillery cannons are affixed to the ceilings of enemy bases, as their name implies. The body is contained inside an impenetrable shell that repels most enemy attacks. It is most vulnerable whenever it retracts from its shell and proceed to open fire. Defends itself by shooting explosive bombshells in quick succession at a downward angle.
Conveyor Turret
Mobile turrets affixed to moving conveyor belts, as their name implies. These are equipped with multiple gun barrels pointing outwards from all sides of the body. These often move along the conveyor belt they are often affixed to, slowly moving forward and backward while shooting energy projectiles from all directions. Found exclusively in military bases and factories occupied by enemy forces.
Cluster Shell Cannon
Automated artillery cannons that shoot an volley of projectiles upward before raining down on the ground. These may come equipped with either a single missile launcher or multiple gun barrels depending on the model, giving them an wide attack range.
Rail Cannon
A large mobile cannon that moves along a large metal rail high above the ground. It often moves about by rapidly sliding back and forth. A napalm cannon has been installed below the chassis, capable of firing large fireballs. This weapon is useful for limiting the movement of ground enemies and for destroying obstacles. Destroying the soldier that operates from the inside causes them to leave the cannon behind temporarily, waiting to be hijacked at any given moment.
Pulley Cannon
Mobile turrets that simply move back and forth along metal rails on high platforms. These are programmed to track down enemy soldiers by adjusting their gun barrels and fire bullets accurately.
Rotating Gun
A nickname given to automatic defense turrets programmed to track down enemies and fire bullets accurately. These are quite another common sight within enemy territory and they served well enough in their purpose. These also came in a variety of rather unorthodox designs.
Rotating Turret
Mobile turrets affixed to automated artillery modules on the ground. They can aim their cannons at any angle before proceeding to firing bullets rapidly. These also came in a small variety of unorthodox designs, from simple gun-pods with dome-like covers to rapid-fire cannons with a select number of gun barrels.
The enemy characters that are mentioned here (four of which are shown above) are from the Contra franchise which is copyright to Konami.
