Model - Brittany

I started pursuing photography at the beginning of 2005. It was a rough for me, because I had a fairly clear vision of what I wanted to do with it, but it was difficult due to lack of someone to point the camera at. Early-on, I quickly went through photographing my friends (and friends of those friends) to practice, but there came a point when I needed someone with a common interest to work with.

Frustrated with the difficulties of finding such a person, I had reached a point when I was ready to just give it up completely. Point-of-fact: it was only a day or two after I decided to put my camera up for sale, that I met Brittany. While she had done some modeling, she was always quick to point out that she "isn't a model" (her words). She is a professional hair stylist. But we instantly connected as people.

She was always patient with me, particularly at the beginning (when I really didn't know what I was doing). She always let me experiment with different ideas...even if I didn't get a "good shot" at the end of the day. She was always there, when I wanted to create. A friendship was forged in our working together, and it was with her I learned that a connection is the most valuable thing, when shooting. She wasn't simply "looking at the camera"...she was looking at the person holding the camera. There is a big difference.

I will always attribute her as the original "muse". And even though a lot of miles now separate us, and I do hope to shoot with her again, one day. But until then, I just wanted to speak a bit more about her, and how she factors into my existence as a photographer...and as a person.

If you are fortunate in your lifetime, you will meet someone who separates your life into two parts: the part before you met that person, and the part since you've known that person...and both of you are undeniably changed for having met each other.

She is that, to me.
