These are my cousins Quinta and Queenie.
We've grown up together, me with my conjoined sister Stella. It was always nice to have someone close to you, family even, that know how it feels to be you.

It's different, of course, but growing up without your own body, without full control over your actions, and being black in this country. We already got teased in school for being a 'two headed beast', but growing up in the southeast of our country also came with a lot of other names. But having our cousins around and being in the same grade saved our lives.

My favorite memory with them was after a school musical. We drove together in their car, sharing loud laughter and talking about our respective crushes who just happened to be opposite leads from the musical. They pulled the car over into a clearing, hopped out, closed their door, and started dancing in the headlights of their parked car. Stella and I got out and laughed "What are you doing?". They began a dramatic recreation of one of the musical numbers and took our hands to dance with us. We all jumped around and danced and sang and eventually collapsed back into the seat of their still-running car.

"I'm glad I'm not alone girls," Queenie said.
"I'm glad we have you," replied Stella.
We don't all need to reply, since we all know how Queenie just spoke for them both, and what Stella said was true for both of us.
We held hands for several minutes, before the girls pulled out of the forest clearing and drove us all home...
