Description

– So here’s Adventure Man’s wife, Georgina! This is the first time we’ve seen her, but she knows Mya pretty well. Also, Chester is looking less like Jason Momoa and more like Jeff Bridges here!

– I wasn’t familiar with the phrase “Blood and Soil” until the events at Charolletsville. It was one of many phrases the Alt-Right demonstrators enthusiasticlly chanted. The phrase has a long racist history and was a favorite in Nazi Germany. You can read all about it here.

I did not recognize Adventure Man until you named him. That's a proper secret identity!

Blood and soil is a moronic thing for those alt-righters to chant. Their own ancestors come from a multitude of nations, who displaced the people who were truly linked to the land. Moreover, I doubt they'd care to actually live 'tied to the land', as farmers with little to no city exposure.

Yeah, I think he may be more recognizable in color. Maybe I should have had Mya say his name, but I wanted this to appear more organic (and I was already having her say Georgina's name) and I was hoping that his connection to Chester would make it obvious.

I wasn't familiar with the Blood & Soil phrase at all. It has a weird history.

Well, I knew it as 'Blut und Boden'. I hadn't looked too much into it before reading the link you provided.

That rule actually makes a lot of sense. Politics are really messy, and bringing them into the life and public perception of a super hero would only make it harder for them to do their job. As long as they remain "impartial", no one group (Beyond actual criminals and villains) has a reason to distrust the hero.

Yeah, especially since the Alt-Left has a habit of labeling anyone who disagrees with them about anything a Nazi, then advocates beating/killing that person for being a Nazi. Superheroes should be above that and stop actual villians instead of made-up ones.

Indeed!

It's really hard for me to imagine what our world would look like if someone who could knock down a city was also going to rallies and protests.

There is also that

Hm. What would happen if a supervillain went down to those rallies and stood against the alt-righters? It could happen; just think of Magneto. Heck, any number of villains could say "There's being a villain, and there's being plain evil" and stand opposed to the alt-right.

Yeah, I imagine that a lot of familiar villains would be fairly against the alt-right. Supervillains are weird in the sense that they're often all over the political spectrum.

I imagine if a supervillain showed up at a rally or demonstration or whatever he'd just be arrested.

Unless they had a good secret identity, I guess.
But imagine being a superhero, obliged to use your secret identity, and recognizing Doctor Blut standing next to you, chanting against the alt-righters alongside you.

That would be an interesting dilemma.

A real moment to evaluate the sliding scale of evil.

Too bad they can't wear their uniforms, but I can see the point.

I'm not sure what the rules are for police and military participating in political protests and demonstrations, but its easy for me to imagine that the government wouldn't want actual super powered beings doing so. As we'll see in future episodes the NSA keeps a very tight leash on them.

I keep thinking back to that implant given in a van when I read your words ... and I grow even more concerned for GK and her peers.

OMG, working for the NSA (at least this version) is really crappy. The surgery van and constant privacy invasion is only part of it. There's more to come.

They're creepy, creepy people. I worry that a time will come where GK will either have to go rogue or knuckle under to what is basically slavery. o_o
