Description Watercolor on paper, 2011.

The idea of "wabi-sabi" is that everything is perfect in its imperfection. In this case, the top painting of fresh, living roses is what most people find beautiful, but the bottom image of the dried, dead roses is also beautiful in its own way.

More about this painting may be found on my art blog:

Thank you! ~ Yes, wabi-sabi is a good theme I think. You can draw/paint many things using that concept.

I'm actually inspired to go to the garden
and take a good look at nature.
It made me thoughtful too, looking for beauty in decay))
So thank you for sharing it with us

I'm glad that you liked it, and am even more glad that you found something to take away from the meaning behind it!

I wrote more about wabi-sabi and how this project came about on my art blog (this post is mostly about the meaning of wabi-sabi and how it applies to our lives): [link]

I posted about this project a second time, showing the pencil drawings I did for it here: [link]

...Just in case you want to read a little more behind the psychology of it.

I'm sorry I took a long time to reply.
I've been away for about two weeks.

Thank you for the links you sent me. I especially like
the sketch you did for the wilted roses/flowers.
It got me engrossed on the computer screen for about 10 minutes. lol

Wabi-sabi is a really good theme. But I'm not sure I could
do it as well as you

I hope you've had some a good holiday season! We've still got New Year's ahead!

To me, the MOST important thing about art is that you must be willing to make mistakes! Very rarely do you "get it right" on your first try at anything, which is why you work at it until you improve~ Think of how many times you've drawn and it hasn't come out how you want it to! But you kept going, and improve because of it. If you like the theme, maybe you can come up with something that I didn't think about! Art's not about one-upping each other because everyone's style and interpretation is different So, I'd love to see whatever you come up with, if you do try it!

I don't think that I have it quite right myself, and I may be returning to the wabi-sabi theme at another time (I have three current projects...haha...have to finish something first).

I've replied late again. I'm terrible((

Hmm, now that you've put it that way, I feel as if
I should give it a try (on wabi-sabi) and start thinking
up ideas for it
Honestly, I like reading your long comments.
They really spur me on)
And you give such good advice! )))

Oh, and Happy New Year to you too!

It's okay! (^^)~ Everyone gets busy, haha.

You should give it a try if you like the idea! There's no harm in giving it a shot, you're bound to learn something.

Than it's just the creepy me... XDD
It's the green under the big dark rose on the upper picture.
the smal red flower leave is the eye, then in green the cheekbone... cause of the white flower it looks like he is sneeze... XD
under the white flower follows the mouth...

Thank you! This is one of the works up at The Glass Cat. I did tell Jeannie that she could sell them separately, though, as much as they are meant to be together. People are weird at times...so the option of selling them separately is a good idea.
