Holy mother of God, that is a lot of thought that you put into this.
I love the part about rabbits not having the depth perception to properly aim a gun, very good catch.
absolutely amazing.

No ^^ but I do see the resemblence after I checked it online. The story and main idea was not by me though...I'm just someone like a concept artist.

It's confusing to see how so many species of animals could go from eating each other, to living in a structured society. Oh, and what about birds? They are some of the most intelligent animals around, it would be interesting to see how they would develop. Also, what about vehicles? And have you seen Gurren Lagan? The story kind of reminds me of it.

Yes I thought about the problem with food as well, and right now I have no complete solution to that. At this point I would assume they have meat and vege farm like human do. As human have not much problem eating monkeys, the animal society should be okay eating meat of unevolved herbivore cousins, especially the ones eating are the carnivores who are in upper caste of the society. I think occassionally "cannibalism" [a carnivore humanoid eating a herbivore humanoid] would happen due to the fact they sometimes can't control their primal nature. But overall the war should keep each of them closer together.
Imagine if human have a war with aliens of machines, the ideas of race, religion, nationality and such would be soon thrown away as we would need to band together to face a greater threat.
Yes I thought about birds too and I think they should remain able to fly, which can be an interesting addition to the army. If I get to specific animal info and settings I will work on that.
Vehicles too. I have drawn some ideas down but mostly failed creations - simply because the humanoids have too many varied sizes and shapes - thus creating vehicles usuable for all of them would become unrealistically large. For starter, how do you design the control panel? My solution so far is to have enhancement pieces that the soldiers attach to so each person becomes an individual "vehicle".

Brought Together by War...
Nice theme! ^ ^
The vehicles could have mental links to their head nodes, allowing any of them to control one, and the seats could mold to them. There is a material in development that consists of nano computers, that can be programed to form different shapes, some of which can even move on their own. I can't remember the name of the technology, but I saw it on a show called Nextworld. It may solve some of your dilemmas.

One word: WOW.
I don't know if I can help but just give a bit of feedback on this thought process (I love this kind of banter)
These animals, are they ascended humans? Or regressed humans. When I hear that they have soo much animal qualities I wonder if they now have litter's like most animals do.
Are they soo far gone that the Animal survival mentality is ingrained to the point that they have no "specialists."
When it comes to things that aid in the field I like what you've come up with, and their technology sounds like it is quite on par.
A type of mirrored visor could be used for a type of special herbivore unit - but that comes back to if it's a big pack, or a fully realized society.
The breeding, could they perhaps breed specially to create a better lineage, or would that dilute the powers that they readily possess? Obviously animals (to my knowledge) don't share uncommon fears, but they are part human, a leadership would become a vital part?
Lastly (I'm really sorry, heh) if they do mass produce litters I would think the most conventional means of equipment is a powerful metal that can be placed over the vitals (organs, arteries) on the node suit.
They sound like they take the Zap Brannigan approach to war.
You must be a treat to work with 8D

From what I know, the setting is that as we are evolved from apes, the animal humanoids are descends of various other animals in nature. The evolution process has make them to walk two legs [but sometimes still 4 legs] and closer to a humanoid form. I would assume the major differences from human would be the face / head, the body would be slightly arcing, and the legs would be rather different [which would be much more powerful and kicking] seeing how most animal's legs are differ from apes.
Right now I only got into the general concepting and yet into details of specific animal. Data and ideas that I came up are still quite early stage and unsorted at this point.
Personally I would assume the idea of "specialists" would be much stronger in an animal society, given that each type of the members has their own natural strength. [e.g.: Rabbits have specially good hearing, while no one can sprint faster than leopards] Thus the idea of "a squad with members compensating each other with their strengths" mentioned above was used - say if one type of animal is good at assault, one expert in defense, while one excels in detection, when they work in teams the effect would be much better than letting everyone doing assault, defense and detection at once - The problem is that when they lose one of the members [which happens often and quick in heat of combat] the rest of the team becomes drastically powerless - Thus the idea was eventually thrown away and go back to "letting everyone doing everything at once" - it's dumb, but at least it's safer.
About the breeding. Basically as we know it's against nature's rules for animal types to crossbreed - it's physically and mentally inaccessable to most. Although few examples such as lion x tiger exists, the children often seen as a defection as they have no reproduction capability. Unless their genetic engineering tech has reached a point [which I'm not sure they do in this story] to overcome this, it's basically out of question. Crossbreed between animals would be like human crossbreed with animals - it's most likely unthinkable for majority. [Although long term war and crumbling social system may result more cross-mating to happen.]
Fears grow as intelligence evolves I think, so as the animals becoming more maturing, humanoid form, the concept of "fear" would gradually becoming more resemble to human. [I have to think more on that] As for leadership, as I mentioned above, large carnivores often possess more intelligence and strength, thus naturally owns commanding positions in most cases. [On contrary to small herbivores]
The mirrored visor would be a good idea - thanks for that. Basically the aiming system for kinetic blaster works as such: user hold two arms straight and parallel to ground while both blasters send out aiming lasers, the user can easily see where they're aiming by moving their hands closer together and see where the lasers cross each other - this simple yet effective [although not best] design works equally well with both carnivores and herbivores eye structures. [They dont need to know the distance, just need to see if the lasers cross each other on the target]

he is X_X
The concept is that, Animaleans [Animal Humanoids] grew up on one side of the world, a completely different continent, while humans on the other. Eventually the humans just found them and yeah u_u.
Jalingon's done the dirty work of evolving that kind of history, but I'm satisfied with it : P.
Generally, Animaleans would produce litters, but some one the structure ideas we're looking for include a more hhuman structure [like, human body, fur, animal head]. But I rather like how he managed to use the legs on Ophiguris Oo [rabbit character depicted, you can guess he's kind of my character c:].
It's good to finally have a proffesional concept artist though xD.

I've been developing a sci-fi story/background/future for a friend because she wants to illustrate a short story I wrote.
And I love the kind of brainstorming it takes to make the story make logical sense.
I find it hard to explain something that has no reason : >
