Description

My stories are getting longer with every single tier... Anyway, I'm so proud from my first kukuri Riekko ;;v;; Because when I got her, I never would've guessed that she would be this far \o/ And now her legacy continues, because she gave birth to jade boy in her first bun! I couldn't let anyone take him away from his mother, so he stays as faithful companion in farm. I also had to draw his sister Kiiruna and brother Sorenth <3 I hope they'll have a lot of adventures together!

Oh, Salvia was born deaf. This is how it happened...

Karhunkarva sniffed the fresh morning air. It would be really interesting day once again. After her first kukuri Riekko decided to surprise her one morning with bunch of eggs on her lap, she'd been on her toes constantly. Because why wouldn't she be? There would be babies soon and she had to learn how to take care of them, since even adult kukuris usually provide too much work. Karhunkarva trotted across the yard and entered barn, where her kukuris slept. Riekko raised her head immediately, welcoming her handler in with a loud chirp. It made other kukus, Hunaja, Kaamos and small pup, Sarastus, lift their heads too. Hunaja raised herself on her feet and walked towards Karhunkarva, sniffing aggressively the centaur, hoping to get some breakfast.
''Slow down, you lazy furrball!'' Karhunkarva snorted, putting down buckets which held the meals of her animals. First she gave food for her cow, then she fed the chickens. After that was Hunaja's favorite moment of the morning, when she got whole bucket to herself. She chomped fruits and vegetables fast, trying not to choke on biggest pieces. Kaamos watched silently, nibbling his meal more patiently. Riekko got the bucket full of fish; because she was mother now, Karhunkarva doubled the size of her breakfast so dove could get over long day of waiting eggs to hatch. It started to show though, Riekko's belly was growing and centaur was sure there was no more babies coming. Handler shook her head and layd down besides the eggs. They felt warm and she could smell life inside of them. But today her heart sunk again.
Two of the eggs seemed normal. They were warm, and big, and she managed to hear silent sqeacking inside of them when Riekko made a noice. But one egg remained completely silent. Karhunkarva glanced over to Riekko, who licked her food bucket. She wondered did kukuri had figured it out too. There could be one baby, who would never get out from the egg.
During next couple of days, the noices from inside the eggs got louder. They started also moving and one day Karhunkarva walked in to see crack on shell. She rushed immediately to look at it, when suddenly a tiny leg pushed itself out from the egg, scraping the shells out from the way and loud screech woke up every animal inside the barn. Riekko lifted herself up, sniffing the newborn leg very curiously. She licked it shortly, but moved her head back, waiting the pup to get out itself. Karhunkarva held her breath, when another egg moved, and suddenly horns sticked out from it. Small pup pushed itself out, closing it's big green eyes immediately when light hit them. It screamed. Riekko was looking very confused; she tried to lick both of the pups at the same time, and held her back to not smash the eggs right away to get babies out. Karhunkarva sat down next to the scene, just in case something would go wrong. But Riekko was good mother; when pups finally broke the eggshells, and tumbled on the hay, kukuri collected both of them and started licking the mucus out from them, drying their fur. Little kukuri pups started making noices and Riekko answered them, burying her muzzle on baby pile. She offered some fish from her bucket and pups started gnawing it, while Karhunkarva made the observation that both pups were probably carnivorous. Riekko looked to happy when teaching her pups to eat. But Karhunkarva couldn't help but notice one unmovable egg on the corner...
Pups were healthy and very energetic. In just couple of days they tried to constantly escape the barn, but always either Karhunkarva or other kukus pushed them back in, or Riekko snatched them from their tail and carried them inside. She didn't leave the barn, because she was guarding the last egg. Karhunkarva sighed when she saw her amber dove groowing the egg happily, still believing that there would be third pup. She didn't want to burst her kuku's bubble, but egg would be spoiled soon; it had to be removed. But when centaur tried to lift the egg, Riekko didn't allow it. She held it in between her paws and looked at centaur like asking 'why are you taking my pup?' Centaur didn't had the heart to take it, so she left it be. For now atleast...
After a week, Karhunkarva didn't have any choise. Riekko had to get out from the barn and teach her pups to hunt or fish. She couldn't spent any more time inside. Maybe kukuri wouldn't forgive it to her handler right away, but later Riekko would understand it was for her own good. Karhunkarva inhaled and walked in to the barn.
''Riekko... I need to tell you something'', she started, looking at dove who was watching her with curious smile, ''I don't know how much you understand this... But the last pup isn't gonna hatch.''
Riekko titled her head.
''The egg is silent, there's no living pup anymore...'', Karhunkarva said quietly, ''It's been week since your pups hatched. You need to focus on them and let go from this cold egg.'' When centaur tried to reach the egg, Riekko moved it away, closer to her body, and shook her head.
''Riekko...'', Karhunkarva sighed, when suddenly they both heard a crack. Riekko let out a surprised whine and looked at the egg, which now had a small nick on it. And then it happened.
Small, but very energetic green baby hit its head on egg and opened it so fast, that soon the barn floor was covered in eggshells. Pup shook its whole body and opened its green eyes, opening a mouth to a loud yawn. But it started to look around curiously, until Riekko poked it with her muzzle. Little green baby let out a squeal and hugged its momma's peak. Karhunkarva was too surprised to talk. She was so sure about the dead baby inside the egg that this was just... absurt. First, she tried to see that maybe there was something wrong with the pup, because it hatched so late. But after a while handler decided to give it a rest. The pup was alive and strong-willed, hugging its momma first time. Riekko looked to happy and chirped to the baby, inviting other pups to see their new baby brother. Karhunkarva laid down on next to her kukuri and when pups were communicating with each other, she put her arm on Riekko's back and their eyes met.
''I'm sorry, Riekko. I'm so sorry I almost made a mistake.''
