The song "Canned Heat" was popularized (to some degree) by the movie Napoleon Dynamite, in which the title character dances in front of his school to the song. He wears a shirt that says, "Vote for Pedro" to get support for his friend in the upcoming school election.
I wanted Gilbert's clothing to be a reference to the movie, so I changed "Pedro" to "Ludwig", like Ludwig is running for President of the student body.
...that sounds like a fun comic idea...
