Description Sometime ago, I was on  's Discord and several members were coming up with a theme for this year's Mayternity. Eventually, they decided on Mayternity Through Time, which portrays with different times and cultures. This was a very neat idea and was a challenge I wanted to try out as I have done little historical drawings, especially when it came to pregnancy. However, due to other obligations, I wasn't about to join this community event. But that wasn't going to stop me from taking up this challenge.

Well, as I predicted, I was unable to put all of my historical based pregnancy drawings within the month of May. Oh, well. That's life. Anyway, our next stop in history is the Golden Age of Piracy, which lasted from 1650s to 1730s.  This era in history would have a profound impact in pop cultures with Captain Hook from Peter Pan, Talk Like a Pirate Day, One Piece, and, of course, Pirates of the Caribbean.

During the Golden Age of Piracy, there were at least 50 women, who became pirates, mostly disguised as men. The most famous of the female pirates was Anne Bonny and Mary Read, who served in the crew of Anne's lover, Captain "Calico Jack" Rackham. During this time, Anne Bonny became pregnant with Calico Jack's child. She went to Cuba and gave birth to a son. After 2 years of piracy, Calico Jack, Anne Bonny, Mary Read, and the rest of Jack's crew were captured by pirate hunter, Jonathan Barnet. Jack and his male crew members were sentenced to hang. When it came time for Anne and Mary's sentencing, both women "pleaded their bellies."

I know what you all are thinking: What the hell does that mean? I'll try my best to explain. Pleading the belly was a English common law that allowed a woman, who was expecting a child, to get a reprieve from a death sentence, like a hanging, until her child was born. Anne Bonny and Mary Reed used this plea to delay their hanging. Mary Read died from a violent fever in 1721, while she still pregnant. Anne Bonny's fate is unknown as their is no record of her release or her execution. It has been speculated that her wealthy father had ransom her out of prison.

The Irish pirate, Anne Bonny, heavily inspired this drawing. Another inspiration for this drawing was Penelope Cruz. Why Penelope Cruz? Well, during the filming of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, Penelope Cruz was pregnant. The costume department of the film redesigned Penelope Cruz's costume to accommodate her pregnancy, while having her sister serve as a body double for risky shots.

Out of all the historical drawing I did in May, this drawing was the one I had the most fun and pride to put on paper. Going digital with it was more difficult. Especially, when it came to doing her shadow on the sand. It took a lot of trial and error to get the color, length, and angle to get it right. I hope you enjoy this drawing. 4 down, 1 to go. The skin texture I used in this drawing by made by  .

That's because Anne Bonny was the inspiration for this drawing. I stated this in the description.

Overdue part was not meant for the character. Its for the theme of the drawings, based off the Mayternity through Time, being carried over into June. Kind of like how some expecting mothers go past their due date.

Nice job, really, but the background looks a little odd. It just looks like your character not belong here

I tried to put the same filter I used on the background onto my character. But, it didn't look right. Plus, the outline doesn't help either. No matter what blending opinion I put it in, it's either black or reveals the gaps where I stopped painting.
