Description Photo of an old painting of mine, brought into Photoshop, processed with Eye Candy 4000 Swirl effect and horizontally flipped slices -- because it harkens back to the slightly menacing guardian spirits who stood sentinel in the wood grain of my bedroom door when I was a young boy. I've been consciously avoiding mirror-image symmetry lately, because its a cheap trick, but I came across an old piece yesterday [link] and I had to try a few variations. Besides that childhood memory, the results are reminiscent of Northwest Coast, B.C. and Alaskan aboriginal arts -- something that called me to Washington state in the first place.

Wow! Just brilliant. Studied this NW art & always loved it. I wonder what some Inuit would make of these. Wild stuff. Very inspirational.

Thanks. Probably they'd think it was pretty and meaningless.

I love these totemic pieces of yours, just a couple of days I was looking up totem poles and their meaning because I was thinking of making something themes around them, don't know what I get around to make, but these are very inspiring.

Thank you. I love them too. I invented the process to create them and exercise a certain amount of control, but the result is always a bit of a surprise -- just the way I like my art. The best ones for me are the ones most reminiscent of Haida and Tlingit totem poles. If you have the chance to look at a nice book of great works of Haida and Tlingit art, do it. Gorgeous stuff.

I love the color choices you've made here. And I don't think the mirror-image symmetry is a cheap trick; it's hard to do well. I like this piece.

Thank you. I guess all I mean about mirror-image symmetry is that I have often been guilty of using it as a cheap trick. Of course it is an essential element of beauty in the animal world of which we are a part, so it certainly has its place. I like it in these pieces.

You are far too modest.Even a cheap trick needs a great talent to apear in such away.I would love to see this in stained glass with the light catching all the detail!

Oops. That link to Autonomedia didn't work very well -- but it will take you to the main site, I think. Damned emoticons.

This is my favorite of the four at the moment. I'm a bit behind in working up a cover for the 15th edition of a strange wall calendar I created in 1992 -- [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] [link] -- so I think I'm going to go with more of these panels for the 2007 Autonomedia Calendar of Jubilee Saints [link] ubs_product_book_info&roducts_id=469&zenid=c5eab1889410857bf24c2760c58cc956

Oh well, the image is the important thing, but I do try to add a little something with my titles.
