Woah, where is this...? I'm going to Alaska next month, but I guess its not so cold in Alaska in the summer. Hope to get something similar.

This was taken on Lake Simcoe near Toronto, Canada. No you you won't see anything like this in Alaska at this time of year I don't think but in a month's time they should be well into fall which is a great time to visit. Enjoy your trip.

You're right it does look like a frozen wave but it is actually a mix of snow and ice on top of a frozen lake if that makes any sense.

Ah, yes, my second guess. More practical, I don't think running water freezes at earthly temperatures, but I could be wrong. Ice and Snow, I see it now.

Running water will freeze when it's cold enough and waterfalls are a good example.

It was 17mm on a full frame sensor, I love the distortion that that focal length gives.
