i enjoy it but he has a little problem . I think it looks like he try to not fall .... theat photo is with you ? your feet are different beside his . But i like the annatomy ! it's a very good job .

JamesMarsano In reply to BlueWolf2995 [2011-12-12 23:41:12 +0000 UTC]

note that this is a working in progress pictures.. cant say too much about the hoof kinda feet.
and the pose is already like that. i posed for it. and i was actually doing stuff and getting into the character. it may seem like its trying to fall but my intention was that the lycan was aboput to take another step to run or kill someone or something.. I was capturing a moment before the act. so i dont see a problem there mate.

Interesting. It's kool to see the progress on this after so long. Only thing I was really curious about is what are you doing for the final foot design? Right now it looks almost like it has a cloven hoof kind of shape. I figured you will do that last since it is also an issue of weight and torque on the final sculpture(when you have to unhook it from the side arm). On the one hand, it would be more 'traditional' to have the feet sort of match the hands and be more elongated and wolf-like. But I also think big ol clydesdale horse hooves would be kool too. Then it comes down to the details: what are you going to add to the final design to make it unique. I would imagine werewolves/lycan would have a sense of personality and uniquity like its human counterparts would. Ear piercings? Tattoos'? clothing? Other jewelry? Maybe a maroon fuzzy fedora and pimpin jacket with fringe....

OK so I don't think you'd do THAT(though it would be pretty damn funny). But what I am emphasizing is the next step when the base anatomy is done. Right now you have a piece that is approaching matching the basic character design for games and movies as a background 'secondary' figure or generic monster #5. Is that your goal.. or do we want to make this into something more? Even if it is taking a bit to curl the creatures right arm so the hand is slightly more upturned and then making a variety of secondary objects for him to be carrying/holding as he trudges along. A severed head.. a skull.. a limb.. tree branch fashioned into a maul.. red riding cloak (laugh).. huge katana... You might find it fun to make a few accessories, and even more fun to change them up as you display the figure in photo's and on your shelf.

Love your work. And I love that you took the time to pose for the sculpture yourself. It's great to be self sufficient so that when you go pro, you know if all else fails you can do things on your own. Keep at it!

thanks mate, well im actually working on the feet now.. im making it longer like the hands.
there will be no accessories, but i plan on casting him and giving him a real fur on the resin piece.
im kinda through with this sculpture. i just want to get it done and sculpt a ballerina lol thanks for the feedback though i appreciate it

EvilKingGumby In reply to JamesMarsano [2011-11-26 16:59:21 +0000 UTC]

OK real fur is just damned kool. Good way to cover the muscles if there is any niggling problems you ended up hating. Hmm.. ballerina.. Might I suggest Lillipop chainsaw's character? she's.. a cheerleader with a chainsaw.. sort of like a ballerina.. but.. more edgey. (and it's a game not actually out yet so you might get snatched for the official figurine.. he he he)

JamesMarsano In reply to EvilKingGumby [2011-11-27 01:48:21 +0000 UTC]

lol i think ballerinas are quite beautiful. im kinda hating on creature sculpting at the moment. or anything gory.. im at the situation where i just want to have a beatiful classic piece

EvilKingGumby In reply to JamesMarsano [2011-11-27 14:58:28 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it would be interesting to see you do something like that. Not sure if you really want to do a traditional ballerina or not but you might want to check out the work in 'Waterdance' . It is some great photography by a guy done underwater but made to look like it's not necessarily underwater.. using professional/ballet dancers as models. Gorgeous stuff, and some really amazing poses.

I used it for figure drawing in college and loved it.

This is excellent, a very unique design, kind of like if Nosferatu were a werewolf instead of a vampire.
I also use myself as reference when I draw, kind of tricky because I can't really see what I'm doing.

JamesMarsano In reply to CostumesbyCourtney [2011-11-24 04:14:41 +0000 UTC]

thank you! yes, it is indeed tricky! i was only capturing the pose though when i built the armature. i didnt follow the rest when i build up the muscles.

Looking wild reminds me a bit of good old Pumkin Head with the long fingers and the pose you going for fur or the more bold type like the underworld wolves?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamesMarsano In reply to DarkAsylumxxx [2011-11-23 22:02:37 +0000 UTC]

Thanks kyle! i am going for the more bold type like underworld, but i'm not sure if i should add some fur or not, because i'm kinda liking the design of the werewolf from the Bram stoker Dracula. the werewolf on that movie look beastly

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarkAsylumxxx In reply to JamesMarsano [2011-11-24 11:08:16 +0000 UTC]

well you could make a bold one first mold cast and just sculpt fur on the casted version or get it flocked with real hair maybe I know a guy in boulder city that has a flocking gun there's a few options I could think of.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

JamesMarsano In reply to DarkAsylumxxx [2011-11-24 23:49:31 +0000 UTC]

oh flocking gun? that sounds interesting. yeah i think ill do that, i am also going to scan this guy to a 3D software and probably have it printed out later on..

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DarkAsylumxxx In reply to JamesMarsano [2011-11-25 10:04:04 +0000 UTC]

A flocking gun basically is a airbrush like tool that blows air but also emits a static charge at the tip and the flocking is basically strands of hair that flow out the tip and being statically charged the hair shoot out like needles staning straight up to bond and layer over a surface which there's a clear glue you brush on first were you want to add the hairs but in a sense it's like using a air brush that forms hairs great for face hairs and replics or small scale sculptures like a were wolf.

JamesMarsano In reply to DarkAsylumxxx [2011-11-26 09:28:07 +0000 UTC]

oh wow.. that is very interesting.. i would really like to try that! i do have airbrush.. maybe i can do something with it.. and i also have some flocking powder

maybe I don't know the guy up in boulder city Paid like 1,200 bucks for his got it from a guy out of england I'm not sure all the machanics of it myself but I'm sure it can be replicated some how it you can read up on it.
