Sketch05 of my ten sketch challengeEveryone loves Marvin, and as a reader of the books, I believe everyone has a right to imagine him differently. Especially differently from the movie... which was quite obviously a midget in a huge plastic suit, which was completely NOT what I had in mind. I loved Marvin in the movie, yes.. and Alan Rickman is great for his voice... I was disappointed in many of the changes in that movie, but I don't hate them for it. If Marvin looked like the Marvin I've designed, he'd have to be a CG creature and I KNOW they didn't have the budge for THAT in the movie.
So yes, this is Marvin. He looks a lot like all the other robots I ever draw... what can I say? I know what I think an attractive robot is.
And I know his left arm is too short... pen is kind of hard to go back and fix if you know what I mean, especially when you're only giving yourself an hour to draw ten pics, and I tried to keep the post production to a minimum in this series.

Can I just note that the changes in the movie were specifically made by Douglas Adams. Any true fan of HG2G knows that every single edition of the story is different from the one before it.

You're accusing me of not being a true fan? I am well aware that no two editions are the same, I read the forward thanks. And just because Douglas Adams made the changes doesn't mean I have to like them. Like I said, I don't hate the movie for being different. There are parts of the movie I actually like... like the shovels that hit them in the face when they thought of something, and the Perception Gun, and Aurthur and Trillian's romance was a fun twist since it was different from the book. I wasn't a fan of the new angle on Zaphod's two heads and three arms, but I understand why they did it that way. And I wasn't a fan of the midget in the plastic suit but I understand why they did it that way too. It is possible to pick a favorite version of the story, right?

I dunno.. it seemed like they were big fans of guys in goofy suits. I didn't see anything else with that kind of effect in the movie. It doesn't mean they couldnt do it, I guess it just means that they didin't try it

Yes, I like this version better than the movie's - theirs was too cheerful looking, I thought. I also had my known idea of Marvin when I was reading the books, which was more grey and boxy, I think. That's the fun thing about books... man, I really need to read more.

I sat down and did ten sketches in an hour instead of taking ten requests.. .you know the challenge right? Someone says "I'm gonna draw ten free pictures under the agreement that you draw ten free pictures too!" I put in a suggestion for a picture wihtout reading the fine print and then I'm like "Oh no! I have to draw ten free pictures or some armless, legless baby in africa will die of starvation! And I dont have time to draw ten free pictures of other people's request, so I said "I'll make up my own rules and draw ten pictures as fast as I can" And I did... and I'm halfway through posting them, I've got a halo one, a halflife one, an ff9 one and a transformers one up already... the rest of the sketches are from other fandoms I like
