Description So this got barfed out of nowhere

Considering getting a commission of Fike done but didn't have a decent up-to-date bust reference so I sketched one on Friday night...and then somehow ended up inking and colouring it. It's hideously rushed and looks gross but I'll fix it at a later date, it's serving its purpose for now. It also serves to showcase some of the many lovely scars that Fike's collected over the years - this is by no means all of them and the precise shapes and locations are subject to a bit of tinkering but this gives a rough idea of where the main ones are. I've also included the stretch marks on his shoulders and chest which he obtained in his early adolescence from growing so fast.

/finally/ becoming happy with how I draw his face - I have a really clear image of what he looks like in my head but for ages I've struggled to get it down on paper, and I'm finally getting closer. I've changed his face and eye shape, and started drawing the break in his nose, which he obtained when he was about 16 but didn't reset properly so the bridge is slightly crooked.

I draw so much more of Fike than any of the others, have you worked out he's a personal favourite yet

Sssshh it's okay if you draw him more than the others, I'm not complaining. *casually squeezes Fike's arm muscles*
Sheesh he looks so manly here, look at all that muscle! And all those scars too, oof that's got to have hurt.

I still don't think I drew him quite big enough, I think his shoulders should still be slightly wider than that. And that's still not all the scars, just the largest ones on his upper torso. There are many more but I need to work out the cause and exact location of all of them before I draw them all in.

I think Fike is the living embodiment of "easy on the eyes but is definitely capable of killing someone"

I wasn't aware that was even a trope that needed personifying, but Fike definitely fits the bill. I'm amazed so many people find him attractive though - yeah he carries more muscle than an entire rugby team but he's not intended to be conventionally attractive. He has a broken nose and a chunk of his face missing for crying out loud :'D

Easy on the eyes and capable of homicide

It's a thing.
You can find someone attractive without them being conventionally attractive, I mean everyone has personal tastes. And broken noses can actually be attractive. I new a boy a few years ago who was both jaw-droppingly handsome and had a broken nose--my friend tried to set me up with him, but there was an age gap and I was too shy to make it work. (I spent a whole three months pining over him, but that's another story for another time)
And Eve wasn't exactly meant to be conventionally attractive either, but I know how you feel about her, so...

I guess that's true, and each to their own by all means. I'm not saying Fike's intended to be ugly or anything, but he was never designed with that kind of visual appeal in mind. I think I just find it odd that people would find /any/ of my characters attractive, 'conventional' or not (because I hate that phrase so so much and I'm determined to never again design characters that purposefully pander to that) because it's never intentional - I don't sit down to draw a character and think 'how can I make them look attractive to other people?' I just draw them how I perceive them in my head. Idk it's hard to explain, I just find it strange.

I see what you mean. Like, it just kind of happens. I kind of think that's what makes them seem more realistic in a way.
But I tend to make characters that seem attractive to me, and usually no one else. I suppose it shouldn't bother me that no one else finds my characters attractive, but I still feel like I'm doing something wrong.

Characters shouldn't exist solely for other people to be attracted to them. Yeah they should have a visually appealing design, but that's all about form and shape and colour and costume and all those other things; that's about how they look on paper rather than how they'd look as an actual person. I tend to think of it in those terms, I think, rather than 'hey what do I find cute' because otherwise they'd all look the same and that's no fun.
And since when does nobody like your characters? You know I love them all to bits, and they've all got great designs. If you haven't had somebody saying 'omg I'd so tap that' that doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong (unless you're specifically designing a character with that outcome in mind)

In which case, I'm pretty sure I'm not all that good at character design...

What makes you say that? I certainly like the designs I've seen so far, and I'm sure you know how meticulously I analyse every aspect of character design.

I can't explain it in any way other than that they just don't feel interesting enough, and I've no clue how to fix it.
But seriously, though?

You know I love them! I know I'm infamous for cramming as many details as possible into my designs but sometimes less is more and you've got some really effective simple designs C: If you want a bit of help with tinkering though I'd be more than happy to throw in a few suggestions, if there are specific things you're unhappy/unsure about.

I know you're infamous for having detailed character designs, but remember, your OCs are much better liked than mine are.

That's entirely subjective! Besides, comparing to somebody else doesn't do anybody any good. But if you do want any help adding details or anything else just give me a holler; I know I'm not the highest authority or any kind of professional but I can always provide a second opinion as good as any
