Description August 1918. Somewhere on the Western Front. No one knows where exactly.

I'm really pleased with this one. It's non-WW2.

Pencils: sketch - B, shading - 4B. Paper - standard A4.

PS. To Mr Cru' - Zabieram się za samolociki

Has a truly nightmarish quality to it... The horror of the Great War.  NICE small details.

I was way more literal in depicting such scenes back then (10 years already...). I would likely be more subtle now, probably to the detriment of the drawing.

you're a german soilder, safe in your trench...then you begin to hear a low rumble...the rumble gets louder...you hear engines and cannon fire as shells fly over your head....you peek your head up to see what makes the noise.......what you see is armored death...

Very nice, well drawn and set up,anyhow I don't think that Mark I was used in late phases of WWI,it's only a pointless precisation.

...totally sweet. the ground is great, and ... love... love the details on the tank right down to the rivets. The confused guy with the potato masher staring at the tank is a great touch.

Oh, August 1918? Could be the battle of Amiens, where the Australians made the biggest contribution (bit of a historian). Very well done with the picture mate, looks very realistic.

JanBoruta In reply to Radavik [2007-02-23 15:12:33 +0000 UTC]

I wasn't bothering about a specific battle, it wasn't the point. Nevertheless, thanks for the history notice and the comment on the drawing

I used WW1 photos for the tank and military uniforms but all the concept, arrangements, etc. are done by me.

No, it isn't the very first tank. This one here is Mk IV tank. The first were Mk I's and French Schneiders.

I was just thinking... May 1918 was when Germans made their breakthrough in Aisne agaisnt both French and British. But August saw Allies making their breakthrough in several locations and pushing the Germans back again. I think August would be more suitable
