Description OH WOW
This is like the first time EVAR that I pulled something like this off in less than a year!! In fact this took me about 3 days worth!! Deadlines come handy, especially when you have a glimmer of hope for scholarship money.

So. I never get to finish backgrounds out of my fear and laziness. I really really need to develop that skill. With this piece I know that there are so many things wrong with it but as an extremely flawed artist I'm blind to these things. This is also my first try at Photoshop, and I was surprised to find taht it was actually very convenient, regardless of the fact that my hand progressively ached more as each battle with this piece ensued. But I'm pretty proud of myself for actually FINISHING IT. The original version is a hell of a lot bigger than this, I checked the print preview and it would print out as a 24 in by 20.. something. That's pretty damn large.. kind of. ANYWAYS. Please give me harsh constructive criticism on this, as I am not very experienced with constructing environments and solid backgrounds. PLEASE.

About the work's content... I have no idea what is going on, except for the fact that those giant blueberries seem important, somewhat. Maybe they hold the genitalia of dead people.

Actually, that's not such a bad idea.

And I feel like I should dedicate this piece to my best friend because for some reason while I was working on this thing I thought of her and how stuff like this reminds me of her weird and wonderful mind. (So you better favorite this Amanda okay? okay.)

REMEMBER TO FULL VIEW AND CRITIQUE AT ALL COSTS *foams at mouth rabidly*

How weird, I don't remember having received this one on my watch section.
Looks great, I love how you worked the colors, especially the darkness, shadows and contrast and those eerie lights near that forest in the background.

jeeez...

this reminds of that one time Jeff Decoster made us go draw in that park under the bridges for Drawing Concepts.

since I'm pretty new to this stuff myself I can't offer much in terms of critique but I will say the lights of the roots/branches on the right side of the stair/stadium thing kinda bother me but only cuz of that one thing Deni made us memorize. The whole "lightest lights of the darks shouldn't be lighter than the darkest darks of the lights"...I just realized that statement doesn't really apply to complaint..

anyways a better way to put it would be, unless those branches are the same base color as those stair ruin things, i don't think their lights should be the same color..

otherwise...better than anything I could do...
though I'm sure money makes for good motivation.

Ohhh yeaah... I still remember the sewere smell that lingered on my clothes for the rest of the day. Gross. But yes, I think I know what you mean by the darkest darks light dark whatever thing that Deni told us, but I'm not sure if I'm looking at the right place. Anyway, thanks for the helpful critique, Jeffo

Oi..yeah...I don't even know what I was trying to say, looking back at my comment.
I meant that the light yellowish hues for the lights of the stairs are really similar to the light yellowish hues for the lights of the root branches. It doesn't bother me at with the roots in the foreground (left side of the stairs) but for the roots that are more in the back (to the right of the stairs). Look at the roots right above that crack in the stairs and you might see what I mean. I'm mainly just nitpicking here...though you asked for it anyways. XP

I'm so very jealous of your 1337 painting skills.

Holy crap. This is really amazing. Really.. all the detailll. And in three days? Amazing. The trees are really awesome, and I looove the clothes. The colors and perspective are also well done, and I'm falling in love with this picture. XD

Daaaamn. Holy shit, Jandruff, you never cease to amaze me. This is amazing... composition, detail, everything! As for criticism, I'm really no expert, but a couple things I noticed are that in comparison to the rest of the piece, the trees up in the top right seem a little sketchy. Also, you said you didn't finish it, but a little more detail to the background might have been good. I'm assuming that's fire, and it looks relatively close to the scene so I think the glow from it might have been brighter?

But damn. Okay overall this is amazing. I love the contrast and colors and those steps, so realistic! Sheez! It's absolutely fantasssticc! Yeah I really can't even describe how amazing. -gushes more- D

Hoooo~! Jandruff does atmosphereee
The person at the back looks like shes about to suck in everything into her belly

My only concern with this one is that it looks unfnished. It could just be the style of colouring, but you can tell that the characters hamore work done into them than the entire background. I mean, the way you coloured the trees and earth look fine, but the splotches of colour indicate to me that you started---but just didn't feel like finishing.

The cracks in the fallen trees, awesome But when its surrounded by an atmosphere without the same detail as that, it looks out of place, know what I mean?

I obviously can't do half of what you just did here, but i'm just giving my critique by comparing the millions of art pieces i've seen during my lifetime.

Great job

I kind of meant for that effect, but yes at the same time I also didn't feel like resolving those areas. I will keep in mind of your words for later pieces like this one, thanks a lot!
