i admire the style you use, seeing as though ive been trying to do something like this for a while, i dunno why but this piece caught my attention very quickly, i think some one was saying the colours should be more vibrant seeing as though its for a children or child related, but i believe the colours as they are really add to the mood of serenity, sort of still and calm, even with the childs smile it still fits well within the mood that is set, especially because of the rabbits expression(even though its just a stuffed animal) it helps to balance out the mood of the child with the scenery, it really draws me in. i love the detail as well.

This makes me have weird, vague memories of a book I used to read when I was a child... not actually the velveteen rabbit, but all I remember is it was a story about someone or an animal or something that grew wings.... and I think there was an illustration in it similar to this somehow. Beautiful work. It makes me feel nostalgic.

hm... looks good as it is, but maybe you could blur the foreground to bring attention to the child and bunny?

That is just so cute. I really did love that story. It seems all the old tales are so much more wholesome, more like... childhood.

The composition is great. It just works so well. You're very talented. Nice work.

Pretty! Ah~ sweet childhood!
To offer some critique though I'm not claiming that I do better(infact I'm no where near your skill). well the only things that I feel could be improved is the girl's left hand. in that the index finger is not long enough or isn't placed right... either maybe move the finger a tiny bit to the left or make it a little longer. The glasses I asume woudl have glass in them... and I know that there is usually a sheen on it... or if they are thick glasses than it woudl change the size of the eye that we see through the lens. But that yet again is very minor details. An other area that I would suggest needs some change... is maybe the pond water.. in that it can do with a sign of the bottom... like make it more transparent... (but then that's really hard and time consuming and it's really minor so yeah... don't mind that too much.)
But this is extremely good! I really like it and the colour balance is excellent and the composition nicely showcasing the girl. so very pretty

I love the depiction of this scene from THE VELVETEEN RABBIT, Janet-chan. I remember reading that children's book.
Great use of the neutral colors for the pond and it's very stunning. I can't wait to see ur other depictions from litrature.

Not telling you, just google "The Velveteen Rabbit" and you'll find the entire story there. If I tell it, it will not have much of an impact.

Wow... For some reason looking at this made me feel very relaxed while at the same time a little creeped out. I think I got the eerie feeling from the fact that the colors are a little more on the darkside. Either way... I think it turned out beautiful

Great execution, and I love the little drop shot in the foreground, as well as the character design.

Its lovely. VEry cute.
Since you encouraged advanced critique,...
If you wanted to work on it more, Id do more to add emphasis to the figures. Theres too much black in the leaves in the foreground. You could work with the depth of field and sharpen the figures and add contrast while you slightly blurr the rest and take out contrast. Just slight moves with this I think would help a lot. Id also add a little saturation to the girl and doll.

i love the boy !! the vibe and the energy is perfect!

now, this might be a matter of just personal preference and you can take it or not.. but i do wish the background had as much vibrancy as the boy.. it just seems very "dull" color-wise compared to the boy.. i know you might want more focus on the little kid but i guess there are ways that i think you're aware of since i know you do look at art a lot that would perhaps make the background more.. "brighter" and as rich as the boy without giving too much on the entire piece..

sigh i honestly feel bad dishing out critiques when i havent been even making art seriously anymore >_> ugh. anyhow thats it DX i hope you just think of me as not as a xD let's say "fallen" artist but as a random passerby who wants to see this piece shine even brighter than it already does in her eyes <3

please keep going.. you have so much potential!!

A lot of people here have been giving me this suggestion, but I think I should stick with the muted palette as I was told to approach this assignment in the mentality of developing visuals for film instead of a children's book. Sorry if that sounds like I'm justifying myself, but thanks for the suggestion!
