Of all your images, this one seemed to grab my attention the most. It captivates the wonder that is childhood, in a way. The girl in the image looks enthralled in the wonders of the sky before her. The detail in her eyes is also quite impressive, as the coloring is even, but also accounts for lighting. The background, which may be the sky she is looking to, is also simple yet amazingly elegant. Your work continues to impress me, and I do hope that you continue doing what you enjoy most, as you seem to have a knack for it!

First and foremost I must say this is visually stunning. Now to critique.

This painting is one of the more traditional pieces I have seen on DeviantArt and that is a breath of fresh of air.

One thing that many of us as artist know is everything need not be perfect for a piece of art to be sucessful. This is a prime example. If every stroke on the face had been as crisp and smooth as a photograph it would have taken away from the emotion of the painting itself. I'm not saying it isn't phenomenal just that it radiates a certain passion from the artist. There is a rawness to it that works in this particular case.

The innocence portrayed in the face itself is beyond compare. There is a what I would call a semi-smile and the eyes seem to also show a small sense of pain or disappointment without a full understanding of why it as is often the case with children throughout the world. Then again I may be wrong as this is simply my opinion.

The colors are used in an excellent way through this and the way they create a sunset in the background is utterly amazing. The mixture of warm and cool colors show a understanding of balance in design as they play very well against the white that fills the rest of the canvas. And the overlay onto the face is just plain cool.

In retrospect I notice this critique comes off as some what of compilation of compliments and some may see that as unfair. Sometimes there are not many things you can find wrong with a piece of artwork as is the case with this one. Bravo Jane-Beata. Bravo.

This is a beautiful piece. The warm & cool tones in the sunset contrast perfectly around the girls face and cause the perfect divide for the subject's face to appear. The elegance used to create the girls cheeks and eyes (including the eyelashes) is flawless. The white highlights on the face and in the pupil bring the face to life. I applaud you for using non-traditional colors in this piece. You have created the perfect contrast of elegance with emotion here. Red is such a bold aggressive color, yet it balances perfectly with the young girl's skin tones. The use of neutral space is very powerful here also. Honestly, this is a very strong painting that deserves the recognition of the DeviantArt community. Well done and keep up the great work!

I agree with the reviewer here. We are getting used to these beautiful watercolor portraits from jane-beata. I like this piece but I must notice that is a bit unbalanced concerning concerning "weight" of the color and fill used. What I want to say that when you look at the painting from a far you can see the disproportion in color distribution, which together with the slant of the face "pulls" the right side of the painting down. Just something to think about. I have the came problem- Balancing the picture as a whole because you spend so much time close to it that you forget (or do it too late) to step back and see how it works as a unison painting. To combat this I usually do sketch of a piece in pencil and shade the general areas concerning to color tones that I'll use and then see how the whole concept works at large. But I can do that because I plan my watercolor to the detail. I don't think that jane-beata plans the picture, at least color wise to that extent. I have a feeling that its more intuitive process during the creation of the piece itself which dictates color distributions and fill areas... But other than that... once again she does it! Beautiful eyes, nice free strokes and gorgeous dynamics... And for the end I have to ask: do you paint your eyes on them? Decause it seems like the eyes are a lot similar from piece to piece, silverish bluish in the middle and then end with the dark ring around- kinda like yours!

You have a very good points and I have started to feel it myself. Being self-taught and not really having anybody to lecture me about these things, I have to discover my weaknesses on my own and sadly sometimes late. I truly do not plan the picture but today as I finished this one (despite of being quite satisfied) I thought I had to start planning this in small before I work on bigger paper. I really enjoy spontaneous painting moments, but lately it brings me more frustration than joy because I started to have higher expectations of myself and I would like to have things more "under control". It is probably not hard to notice that about my works, I hope I can do better - soon

Oh and sorry, as for the "eye" question, I did a couple of portraits based on my own pictures (self), so the eyes were mine (Carneval painting including), and child is my daughter, she has my eyes too, in real.

Hey sorry for the late reply... well if it bring you more frustration thatn joy you know what you need to do... But let me tell you something- control is double edged sword on one side and on the other you do have it maybe you can start to visualise the painting in your head before you start it just to have an idea ow how it will work and then proceed to the painting... I don't know just that our processes of creation are so much diferrent and you control thw watercolor on more art level, I approach it more tehnically...
