Description From tome to time I get notes from people asking me how I did this or that artwork I can not answer to all and I don't always find enough time to answer at all, so I decided to do another tutorial to show how I create a picture. Please be kind note I am not a professional artist or teacher I just share what I know myself. I am sorry the quality of the pictures is not always great, you can find the final result in my gallery here [link] my scanner did a better job then my camera. You can also use the line art I did to practice painting, you can find it in my scrapbook [link] along with some other sketches. Good luck with your work!

You can find another tutorial I did here [link]

Now I see how you did your art so carefully! I doubt that the frisket didn't peel off the paper surface, did it? I always experience such problem when using masking fluid on 100% cotton paper. Then I use masking fluid no more except on cellulose paper.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JannaFairyArt In reply to rinaswan [2009-12-17 06:15:40 +0000 UTC]

I use Arches cold-pressed paper, my experience show me that it is one of the best. I have never had any problems with it even it is 100% cotton, the mask is easy to remove and it never leave any traces on paper. You almost can not destroy this paper it never fall into layers doesn't matter how much you scrub or scratch it, it remains smoth when it dries.

rinaswan In reply to JannaFairyArt [2009-12-22 15:54:27 +0000 UTC]

Yes, I believe that Arches is one of the best paper, but it is not the best one.

well, the best for me! what is your personal favorite then?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

rinaswan In reply to JannaFairyArt [2009-12-31 12:13:27 +0000 UTC]

I prefer paper from England, say Whatman and Saunders. Fabriano is also reliable and not as expensive as above.

LadyShar In reply to JannaFairyArt [2009-12-17 14:31:55 +0000 UTC]

not a problem! and your English is just fine to me! ^^ but thats fine, just sometimes clips of how to do things help a lot. almost like how in a photo and words you cannot get like a water to paint ratio, like how watered down it should or shouldn't look. but honestly, i loved it.

beautiful helpful tutorial
I have masking fluid and have never used it b/c i'm concern if i try to remove it i will damage the paper.
Is there any special tool you use to remove it and does it remove easily?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JannaFairyArt In reply to Katerina-Art [2009-12-17 06:02:46 +0000 UTC]

Thank you, Kat! Sorry for the belated answer... I don't use any tool to remove the mask but my fingers It is easy to remove and it doesn't damage cold-pressed ( but it can damage hot-pressed!) paper if you leave it no longer then 24 hours on the paper.

amazing ! I love very much the ACEO !! It is gorgeous !! Thank you for this wip

Your illustration is wonderful !

Before, I used the masking fluid but I don't know why, it tore the paper ! you mix the mask with water ?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JannaFairyArt In reply to fairyhoods [2009-10-26 19:20:28 +0000 UTC]

There are several possibilities why it happened:
1.It might be that you left the masking fluid on paper for too long - never leave it longer then 2 days on paper.
2.It might be that you used hot pressed watercolor paper - it happened often to me that masking fluid destroyed hot pressed paper.
3.It might be that you removed the mask when the paper was still wet.

I have never mixed mask with water I don't know if it is possible... I know you can add some color to the mask to see it better...

oh, and thank you for the comment, I am happy you like my tutorial
