Description I took this shot this morning through our kitchen window where this guy was feasting on the little bundle of seed we have hanging in the bushes for birds.

I've been trying to describe this bird to my dear girlfriend in order to find out what it is but she didn't know either. That´s why I took the shot so that I could show her. But she didn't know. I then later found out it's an Eurasian Jay or just Jay in short. In finnish it's närhi and in Swedish it's nötskrika.

Then, on the top of it all, I had to go and "ruin" the shot with my way of processing photos and this is the result. I don't normally do nature shots but I just wanted to give it a try.

I know many nature photographers think bird and/or animal photos should look as natural and out of camera as possible but I just don't bend that way...

Hope you like it!

That whole thing about looking "natural" is only true for some people. Personally, I love the touchups you did on this photo. The jay looks kind of intense in the eye. Very beautiful shot.

I don't do a lot of bird photography. Mostly because it's such a pain to capture them. But this is a killer shot. And I LOVE your version of processing for it. Really brings out a lot of detail. F everyone else. This is just wicked awesome. ^^

It's gorgeous - you captured it perfectly and the colours are tremendous. Could it be some sort of Jay ?

Yes it is...I found more on Wikipedia as well. It's an Eurasian Jay (Garrulus glandarius) by it's full name but just Jay for British and Americans.
Thanks for the tip and thanks for viewing!...
Have a great day!

ah ! glad to see I remember what birds look like - I was a bit thrown by the colours - Jay's are normally pink and blue but the light in your picture disguised that a bit. Great picture - really enjoying your gallery

Yes, the colours, and whole picture, is strongly enhanced in photoshop so that is why it looks different. It's just the way I do them...

I love the light in this pic, it's fascinating.

As for the kind of bird, I think you could try asking the guys at the Birds-Club [link] they have a journal about birds identification and I'm sure they'll be glad to help.
