I was about to make a crack about superheroines getting rid of their sense of smell, then realized that that wouldn't work at all, and would in fact make things so much worse.

Looks like they've been caught trying to release one another's bonds. Not sure how much luck they were having, handcuffs and all.
Now maybe if they'd tried removing those gags via a little mouth-to-mouth action... I'm sure that would work better... and that the guards wouldn't be so quick to interrupt it...
