Description "I'm so sorry! Please stop yelling at me!" -Laser Lass
"Unfortunately, your chosen superhero name does not comply with our standards regarding profanity. Please review those regulations and revise your superhero name prior to resubmitting your application." -Paradigm Agency of Superheroes
"Carrie, I love you, but please do not curse in this house." -Grandpa

CODE NAME: Damnsel
REAL NAME: Carrie Cooper
HEIGHT: 5'8" (172.72 cm)
AFFILIATION: None
WORK STATUS: Unpaid part-time superheroine, not-paid-enough just-legally-shy-of-full-time "associate" at Quik Mart.

POWERS/SKILLS: She can turn part of or all of her body into a dark mist. She uses it to fly around (not much faster than most runners) and to aid her in combat by negating attacks or repositioning herself. She can alter her hair and skin color, though that requires a lot of tries to get right. The only reliable change she can make is that of her gothic appearance as Damnsel.
Also, she's proven immune to chloroform, much to the chagrin of villains who love the stuff.
WEAKNESSES: She can't use her mist power on holy ground, property owned and blessed by faithful congregations. Eating garlic makes her vomit. Her mist is susceptible to wind currents and air vents. Beyond that, she's as mortal and vulnerable as any other human being.

BACKGROUND: At age eight, Carrie's parents died in an accident with a drunk driver, and her grandpa took her in. Despite her callous nature, they were close. In high school, Carrie and other students hung out at a local graveyard, looking to scare themselves and maybe some passersby. It turned out that a vampire was in the vicinity, locked in battle with a vampire hunter. Instead of dying normally, the vampire's essence spread over Carrie and the others, granting them bits of the vampire's nature.
Since then, Carrie's taken to superhero work at night, largely as a way to work off her aggressions. By day, she works at Quik Mart ("Shop quick, shop smart, shop Quik Mart."). She hates it and wants to be a full-time superheroine, but the Paradigm Agency of Superheroes rejected her application, and other superhero organizations aren't nearly as good.Β
PERSONALITY: Callous, sarcastic, outspoken. Carrie takes a lot of abuse at work and reins in her frustration, then lets it out as Damnsel. If she doesn't like someone, she'll make it known. She doesn't work well with others.
Regardless of her surly demeanor, she is a superheroine. She protects the innocent, even if she'll later say the person she saved was just begging to get mugged. Some would say she could just use a big hug. Her grandpa's probably the only person she would be okay with doing that.Β

RANDOM TIDBITS
-She enjoys vampire media, no matter how cheesy it gets. She will never admit that she ships characters and looks for any sign of a relationship between them.
-She's not a vampire, but ever since she gained her powers, she's preferred her beef rare.
-A friend of mine considers Damnsel her spirit animal.
-She feels a little bad about yelling at Laser Lass. A little.
-When she got her powers, she quickly lost weight. She's perfectly healthy, she just can't put on weight. She's tired of questions and comments like, "Are you eating enough?" and "Have a sandwich, girl, damn!"

Hmmm.Β  Mind if I borrow your character for a RPG campaign a friend is running?

I'd be very curious to see how she would be written up on an Aberrant character sheet.

On another note, most of my OCs would like her.Β  Zoe would say she looks cool, Ashley would try to be a friend to her (and Carrie would probably hang out at the cafe Ashley runs since the homemade pastries are good), and David would probably try to hire her on as security at his company.

Hell, I'll be honest, David would probably ask her out if he didn't have Zoe.Β  He has this thing for "damaged" people who manage to keep going despite the shit life has thrown at them (but that could also be that considers himself damaged or, at least, "not really real").Β  And while he doesn'tΒ  care much about the "superhero thing" (part of it being daddy issues and another part being that most of the "heroes" in his world are egotistical douche bags who care more about their publicity and action figure sales than the people they claim to protect), he would actually take a look at Damnsel and admit she was hot...then hastily deny that she heard him say it.

Meant to respond to this sooner, sorry.
Sure, go ahead and borrow her. Glad you like her so much. Have fun!

I'm sure plenty would crush on her. Sadly she's a bit of a curmudgeon. Probably just needs to meet someone when she's not in a bad mood, so never try to hit on her at Quik Mart.

Like I said, Zoe would just offer to destroy Karen's credit rating for a price. LoL!

The question is would Carrie be willing to shell out the steep price of nine dollars and sixty-two cents?

Also, she's proven immune to chloroform, much to the chagrin of villains who love the stuff. --- villainous and anti-heroic fists are shaken all over the world at this injustice

Some good details. Heh, I do like how her horrible job contrasts with her heroism Both visually and how it inspired her to greater acts of viole, err, entirely justified physical restraint of unpleasant people.

Her power has a lot of fun possibilities, very creative. It's the kind of thing, like her general appearance, that you would usually associate with an antagonist so I like the twist that she's a goodie, even if an often-annoyed, sweary goodie

I can relate with Damnsel. It's hard when you're an angry person and you're among people who insist on acting happy all the damn time.

Now I need a pic of Damnsel in a green maxi dress, Laser Lass in blue, and Fantasma in pink.Β

Please and thank you?Β Β

I've seen multiple dresses that go under the name "maxi." Wikipedia says that it just means the skirt is angle length. Is that the case?

i may have used the wrong term. I meant typical knee length basic dress.

Have you done anything with the air vent weakness? If not, that's just begging to happen.

Had a story idea some years ago where the villains switch on a gigantic vent during a fight, and she nearly gets sucked into it when she changes into mist form.

OK, if Damsel became a superheroine who could possibly pair up with Lobo (although that would be a tumultuous relationship at best), what happened to her friends who were in the cemetery with her? What did they become?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Janus3003 In reply to the-exiled-muse [2019-08-17 17:54:43 +0000 UTC]

They're kinda on reserve for future villains and heroes. Most I've decided is that one of them did get a taste for human blood and got staked by a vampire hunter pretty soon afterward, and another inherited the vampire's "can't cross running water" aspect and pretty much nothing else. Damnsel considers herself fortunate in that regard.
