Gorgeous grass blending, very nice work. I would love it even more if the horse was a little less smudged, it seems to lack detail and sharpness compared to the background because of the amount of smudging. I find that 18% is a good strength for smudging.

Mostly it's the cutting that gets me. It's very choppy, especially along the rump which is where I noticed it first. The pen tool (or paths tool in GIMP) is the highest-quality selection tool out there, and it's great because you can do curves with it. It looks like you're using a lot of straight lines, and even a bit of erasing by the looks of that bit that sticks up. You can avoid this issue by using the best tools.

Hope that helps!

I actually do use the pen tool, haha. But perhaps I was doing it too quickly .

Yes, the smudging on the rump is what is really bothering me, but as for the rest of it, it was a low quality pic, I even had to find a new face to add in because there was zero definition there after I smudged AT ALL.

However I do think I'll try lowering my strenth when smudging, that might help.

Thanks!

Oh, excellent! The pen tool is great when you do curves with it. It's easy, just put a midpoint on an already-existing line by clicking somewhere on the line, then hold down Ctrl and click and hold the point to drag it into a curve.
