Description Midna walked through the corridors of her castle as her assistant Raygore listed matters that needed her attention. Raygore was a very tall and skinny twili who spoke in an educated matter

“Your highness all damage of Zant’s rule over the realm has been restored and his associates are behind bars” Midna nodded looking foreword still walking. “However princess there have been a few requests that some of the servants have been asking. For instance some would like to make use of the royal library, I myself included” he added shyly at the end. “And one of your maids is reporting that one of the royal chefs is ‘eyeing’ her which she says is disrespectful”

Midna nodded once again thinking to herself “Ever since I have returned I’ve regretted it all the more. My responsibilities have fallen to listening to the silly complaints of my people while the high council has taken control; I feel more like a councilor then a princess”

When Midna had left Link and Zelda and broke the mirror her people welcomed her with open arms. As things started to return to normal in the twilight realm the high council was established to control until Midna became queen.

“Link...I miss you so much. I wish I never destroyed that damn mirror. My people don’t need me that much is clear but I need you” Midna turned her head and wiped a tear that had escaped her eye before Raygore noticed it. Raygore was oblivious to it as he continued on about a local farmer complaining that his neighbor was stealing his chickens…again.

“By returning to the twilight I have restored the natural balance and at the same time I betrayed my heart” Midna kept quiet as Raygore continued rambling.

“…and so princess the one who broke the chair in the castle’s kitchen still refuses to pay saying it was not his fault”

Midna quickened her pace to get to her chambers as she was long since finished with listening to the list of complaints Raygore read aloud. She finally arrived at her room with Raygore closely behind. She turned to Raygore taking the parchment from him.

“Thank you for your service Raygore but I’ll take it from here. I have much to think about and I prefer to contemplate it in solitude”

“As you wish your majesty” Raygore bowed before leaving

Midna entered her room depositing the list on the floor. She approached her bed staring at it in silence for a moment before falling on top of it with an audible groan escaping her. She reached up and grabbed a pillow made of animal fur. When she had first requested that she wanted a pillow with the outside of it outlined with animal fur some people gave her raised eyebrows but did as she asked without question. Midna hugged the furry pillow to her chest closing her eyes she reminisced of her adventure with link.

*flashback*

Midna sat by a dying fire trying to keep warm. She was in her imp form and link scouted the area around them in his wolf form making sure there were no enemies near where they decided to camp for the night. Midna unsuccessfully tried adding sticks to the fire to keep it from going out. She failed and was now sitting next to smoldering ashes; she glared at the rising smoke in anger.

She held her sides shivering “damn golden wolf, every time link finds one of those stupid stones and howls that spirit shows himself telling link to run back and forth to learn some new fighting move. Why can’t that spirit just teach him everything from the start; this is the fourth time we’ve had to stop and go find that stupid spirit wolf!”

In the midst of her complaining she noticed a small log still half in tact in the fire pit with burning ember on the end. Midna picked up a stick and poked at it hopefully to get a small fire going only to have that log crumble into more ash.

Midna growled and threw the stick in the ash “this can’t get any worse” she said going back to hold her sides for warmth again. Midna felt something cold and wet hit her nose, another one hit her head then again on her ear “oh no” Midna thought as rain started downpour all around her “damnit” she cursed getting to a nearby tree for shelter. Midna leaned against the base of the tree wondering when Link would get back. It was soon after that link went up to the tree Midna was under to cover from the rain as well. He shook his body releasing the water from his fur unfortunately to have some of it hit Midna.

She held up her arms in protest “hey, hey!” Link stopped to look at the angry wet imp in front of him. He cocked his head and gave her an apologetic look. Midna sighed and just leaned back against the tree to sleep. Link fallowed her example laying down beside her and curling into a ball to sleep. Midna tossed and turned trying her best to get comfortable but it is hard for a small cold imp to sleep against a tree. Link noticed this; he uncurled himself and walked up to Midna. Link pushed his muzzle to the spot where Midna’s back touched the tree separating her from it and putting his body in between them.

Midna was startled “what are you-” link stopped when Midna was now leaning against his side. He then curled around her body. Midna was leaning against links side with his tail on her chest and head in her lap. Midna was going to say something until she felt the warmth of his fur. She leaned back further getting comfortable and saw link looking up at her

Midna forcibly put a frown on her face “I’m only doing this cause you want to” she put her head to his fur to show she tolerates Links actions. Link closed his and growled happily. When Midna saw he wasn’t looking at her anymore she smiled and nuzzled against his fur falling asleep.

*reality*

Midna held the pillow tightly to her chest breathing softly, lost in her memories. While in her state of bliss she did not realize the knock on her door. There were a few more knocks until the door opened revealing one of the castle’s maids.

“Milady are you here?”

Midna quickly got off her bed and went to her window making it look like she was staring out of it the whole time. “Yes, who is it”

“It is I milady will you be needing anything for supper?”

“No thank you” Midna replied and looked back out the window. Her gaze shifted to the ledge not far from her castle where the gate of the mirror once stood. It hurt Midna to remember how she severed her link to the light realm but she couldn’t help it. Midna walked past the maid and towards the door “I’m heading out, don’t tell Raygore or he’ll throw a fit”

“Understood milady and pardon my rudeness but I made a complaint earlier”

“The one about the chef?”

“Yes Milady the way he ‘eyes’ me is very uncomfortable what am I to do?”

“Slap him” Midna replied bluntly before heading out the door. She walked up to the ledge where the gate once stood. Midna sat down before it staring into the emptiness. She looked around seeing that there was no other twili in the street. She was alone; Midna spotted something glittering on the ground and picked it up. It was a rock with a flat shiny surface with a pattern going off it like it was incomplete.

“This is a small piece of the mirror” she exclaimed

When she broke it she had ordered that all the pieces be destroyed for even the smallest piece held power. She stared closer into the piece’s reflection and gasped at what she saw. It was herself but it wasn’t herself. It was Midna as an imp and the imp Midna was talking to someone. She continued to watch as the vision in the mirror piece changed to a grey wolf.

“Link!” Midna cried out of joy. Link dug his way out of the dungeon cell and imp Midna got on his back. This mirror piece was showing Midna her adventure with Link. Midna sat there for hours on the ledge watching the entirety of her journey unfold. How they conquered the multiple dungeons and the beasts within, when he saved Midna after she was exposed to Lanryu’s light, Zant’s and Ganondorf’s defeat, all the way up to when she left Link.

“Link I…see you later”

Midna watched herself say before she shattered the mirror. Afterward it all ended and the mirror piece only showed Midna’s reflection as any mirror would. Midna dropped the mirror to the ground. Midna felt tears flowing out of her eyes.

“How could I have left him like that!” she cried “I…I” Midna sobbed as she remembered the look on links face beckoning her not to go. Midna never cried when she thought of the past. A tear would escape her now and again but never cry. She put her hands to her face as she sobbed; tears falling to the ground like rain. One tear in particular fell on the mirror piece. The incomplete design in the piece glowed and began to levitate. Midna noticed it moving. The piece stopped in mid air, the light growing in intensity. In a single flash the sages from the mirror chamber in the light realm appeared before her.

Midna stood in disbelief “I…sages…what”

“Midna” one of the sages interrupted “your heart’s desire is so strong that even we the sages can sense its despair”

Another sage spoke up “we have come to assist you” he held out his arm and the floating piece transformed into the complete twilight mirror.

Midna was astonished “the mirror, I broke it, how?”

“Do not be fooled princess, the twilight mirror can never be restored but with our power we built a temporary gateway with the fragment. It has the power to transport one individual, but be warned this gateway can only be used once and there is no way to return”

Midna was filled with happiness. She would finally be able to be with Link again, but what of her kingdom. Will it be safe when she is gone for good? She turned around and looked at her castle the only sound being the passing wind. There was a moment of silence; it was broken by the sound of a loud slap coming from the castle fallowed by an “OWWW!” from the royal chef.

Midna smiled and turned back to the sages “I am ready” she walked up to the gateway closed her eyes and smiled as she disappeared from the twilight realm forever.

Midna opened her eyes to see she was at the mirror chamber in the Gerudo desert in the light realm. It was very early in the morning so the sun had not risen yet. The sages reappeared on the pedestals above the mirror chamber.

“Princess Midna you have made a courageous move in fallowing your heart and we commend you for it, however there is one more price that must be mentioned”

“What? You didn’t tell me about this other price before I made the one way trip!” Midna said angrily

Another sage spoke “if we told you would it have affected you decision?”

Midna thought about it for a moment “no, I would do anything to be with Link”

All the sages nodded in unison.

“So what is this other price” asked Midna

One sage pointed over the horizon “you shall soon see”

Midna looked to where the sage was pointing to see the sunrise. The sunlight moved lazily over the land turning darkness into light. It reached the mirror chamber; the sunlight climbed over the steps and touched Midna.

When it touched her body she felt weird. Twilight particles engulfed her body transforming her. Midna fell on all fours and felt her body morph quickly. When the particles left her she stared at what she had become.

Her hands and legs have become paws. Her face turned into a muzzle and a tail had grown out of her, and she was covered in fur. On her cheeks and the bottom of her muzzle extending to her chest and underbelly were white fur. The top of her muzzle, forehead, and ears were black fur. In-between her ears going to her neck were orange fur. Her back, half her tail, and legs were all black fur. The other half of her tail, and a small patch behind both her front legs had orange fur. There were light blue twilight designs on her front legs ending at her ankles. More designs were on her back legs starting from her paws to her thighs and some more on the tips of her ears. Midna had become the twili version of a wolf.

---------------------

(Author interruption: from now on when Midna is a twili wolf then when words are written in parenthesis “(like this)” that means Midna is talking out loud, but only other animals can understand her, People only hear barks, growls, ruffs, etc.)

---------------------

“(What has happened to me!?)” Midna barked

One of the sages floated from his pedestal to the ground beside Midna

“Just as the chosen hero transformed in the presence of twilight so have you in the presence of light. While the sun shines over the land you shall remain in this form”

Another sage left his pedestal to stand in front of Midna

“However, when the sun falls and it is the night’s turn to rule the sky you will have the power to choose which form you wish to take of your beast and true forms”

“(But what about Link! How will he accept me when my body is a slave to the cycle of the day!?)”

“If Links love for you is as strong as yours for him then this transformation will not change how he feels”

Midna nodded praying the sages were right “(how will I find Link when I am trapped in this desert?)”

Another sage from the pedestal and pointed to the sky; a twilight portal appeared above them “When you destroyed the Twilight mirror all portals above Hyrule dissipated, but this one will take you to Hyrule field and from there you will travel to Ordon Village where the chosen hero resides. Princess Midna keep in mind that while in your beast form you will not be able to use your powers.”

All sages lifted their arms in the air. Midna was confused at first until her body was covered in twilight particles. Her body became particles and flew through the sky disappearing through the twilight portal.

“May the Goddesses smile upon you Princess Midna” the sages said before disappearing.

Midna felt the grass under her paws when she landed. She looked up to see the portal dissipate into nothingness. Midna looked at her surroundings; she saw the sun had risen further into the morning sky. She enjoyed the forgotten feeling of the sun’s warmth. Behind her she saw Castle Town and Hyrule Castle in the distance. In front of her lay the pathway to Foron Woods leading to Ordon Village. Many nearby monsters began to wake from their slumber. Midna didn’t know if they would attack her or not but didn’t want to find out.

She trotted along the path noticing a few moblins that stood on both sides of the road near the entrance to Foron Woods. They stopped and stared as the odd wolf approached. Midna bared her teeth as she passed thinking they would attack. To her surprise they only gazed at her unique beauty. Her sensitive ears picked up two of the moblins discussing how valuable she might be. At hearing this she moved onto a slow run maneuvering into Foron woods before they could decide anything.

After getting lost in a few caves, fending off the numerous Deku Babas, and scareing the lantern oil salesmen she came across the rope bridge.

“This path leads to Links house” Midna thought to herself. She slowly walked across the bridge imagining the possible outcomes of their encounter.

“Link will you be able to tell who I am in this form? Will you accept me? Do you feel for me as I do for you?” Midna thought.

Midna came to the end of the rope bridge and continued on the path with every step bringing her closer to him. All she could do now is hope for the best.

Hm... I happen to like the plot of this story already. It looks really interesting. You have a very nice vocabulary, by the way.

There were a few spelling and grammatical errors, but otherwise, I thought it was pretty good. Very good description of what Midna happened to look like once in her canine form. I love details.

And I liked the list of complaints in the beginning. And that the maid slapped the chef. Those made me smile.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks, I was a little nervous making this story. I'm an amatuer writer and after seeing the works from other people I thought mine would pale in comparison, but so far 2 people have favorited this so it already exceeted my expectations.

anyway, glad you liked it and keep a look out for the next parts!
