Description Yeah I’ll admit it, WoW has jumped the shark.

What can you really expect though? I mean, they popped their bad guy cherry with Arthas about 2 expansions back, and now they’re just diving into their lorebooks from Warcraft II to fish out baddies for us to “trick into killing through creative game mechanics.” I’m not trying to sound like a pessimistic douche about it, but I just feel like Warcraft for me, sort-of ended at WotLK when me and my guild teabagged ol Artie and put an end to the threat of scourge invasion. This brings me to the artwork above.

Deaths Knights rock. I mean, yea Monks have been added since then so the whole “new class” thing isn’t unique anymore, but the Death Knight starter questline still to this day sticks with me as a certified epic gaming experience. Surprisingly enough, the whole WoW crossover thing hasn’t really been touched, as I’ve browsed through the archives. Hell, aside from fanfics, the concept of Naruto as a Death Knight is nonexistent. So….challenge accepted!

Now the tough part of adapting these two properties together is the contrast in gear. Death knights are garbed in heavy plate, while Naruto-verse ninjas generally stick with leathers, cloth and mesh. There are instances of armor here and there with the Hokages and samurai, but generally its rare.

So I stuck with removing parts and pieces here and there, while making sure some areas remained distinctly Death Knight. I figured, keeping Naruto’s dominant side (right) more armored made sense, so I added the heaviest plate there. You’ll notice under the cloth doublet, Naruto has chainmail underneath; a nice compromise between mobility and protection while still keeping with the armored look. Another detail pretty prevalent on all WoW Death Knight art is the use of fur-linning. If you look, they have it on boots, gloves, collars, all over. Here, I used that detail, but I kept it pretty tame, so its not overkill.

Now for the runeblade design, I more or less, played around with curves and lines to get a fairly cool looking blade that I could line with DK runes. The hilt is a stylized fox-head, giving credence to the wielder’s personality.

Naruto’s complexion is somewhat intact, in that he still has some semblance of life in his hair, and skin elasticity (I didn’t make him look gaunt like some undead). But I left the hair limp and his skintone looking semi-dead.

Coloring is fairly straight-forward. I used a blue-ish teal for the metal, giving it the true sheen of Saronite plate. I used dark grey here and there, with a hint of white for the furs. Skin pigmentation I kept with the icy-blue hue of the DK’s semi-dead look, and I muted the blonde of Naruto’s hair to be more of a sickly blonde, rather than cop-out and just make white.

I could go on and on, but this description already got stupid long, so I’ll let you guys take over from here lol.

PS: Guess where his pauldron came from and post it! Pretty easy for WoWHeads lol

It's certainly a great look for Naruto, but I think you should have put the heavier bits on his left side than his right. As he's right handed, it's in his nature to block with his left, as shown when he blocked Kabuto's kunai way back when. And with his right side leading his offense, he should require a lighter and more flexible right arm and shoulder.

I mean don't get me wrong, it's kickass as hell, but that's what I think.

I do not have the link here with me at the moment... But, I can guide you, go to Fanfiction and search (either in the Naruto/WoW crossover section, or in the Search bar) for a fic called "Transient Guest are we" And bask in the sheer awesomeness of that fic

So much thought and detail. I really appreciate all of the work you put into this. I'll admit on not being the biggest Naruto fan, (Just haven't watched enough to judge.)  but from the size of the sword to the build and hair color. This is a wonderful piece of art!

Hello. You might not know me but my username is Kiue Jin. I am a fanfiction writer who's main story is a Naruto/ Warcraft crossover titled 'Under New Banners: Book of the Scourge. (Link: [link] ) I'm not sure if you've read it or not but I would be honored if you did. (I confess that I have been meaning to go back over the old chapters and fix them up for a while now... maybe after I finish the chapter I'm working on.)

Honestly I've been looking for a picture of a Death Knight Naruto to have as a picture of what he looked like but tragically they are in short supply. Yours is the first picture I've seen of a Death Knight Naruto that looks like a Death Knight period so I would like to ask a favor of you. I would like to you look at my description of Naruto and his outfit / armor and come up with something that does justice to the image in my head that I have for him. Hope to hear from you in the near future. Kiue Jin.

I completely agree with you. I have always been someone that has been much interested with In-game lore, has been the same with the Elder Scrolls games, Diablo, Warcraft, etc etc. For me, Illidan and Arthas have always been the bad guys, though lore wise, I could do well with the whole Deathwing/Sundering too, still think it was fun.

However, what they did now was just stupid. They could have built on the stories of the Troll Empires worldwide, the Burning Legion and Sargeras, The Dragonflights, etc etc. Personally, I stopped playing the game a while ago, shortly before the new expansion, though I see no reason to go back.

Art wise, I love this picture, because my favorite class has been the death knight the moment it showed it's undead face. Before that, I loved the Druid most xD.

So yea, Good job

Thank you for writing back to me with this very well written review. Sometimes I wonder if people read my walls of text, and its cool to know I'm not just rambling lol.

But back to what you were saying, lore is the driving force behind any game, MMO or otherwise. The unfortunate truth about WoW is that the team responsible for turning it into a multi-billion dollar gaming franchise have moved on from Blizzard, leaving new people in charge of its ongoing story.

All things considered, that shouldnt be a bad thing, since new vision can help keep things relevant (George Lucas is a good example of how a creator can be detrimental to a franchise in a different era), but the unfortunate reality is that heroic nature of facing a tragic, yet godlike villain is lost.

Heres a good example. Burning Crusade wasnt about Outland, it was about Illidan and all the questing was connected to him in some way. The first new races added to the game were connected to Illidan's villanous actions, adding even more personal reasons to want to take him down.

Wrath wasnt about Icecrown, it was about Arthas and again all the quests were connected to him in some way. Hell even the first new class had an entire questline emulating Arthas' own canonical fall from grace- punctuated by the man's own betrayal of your wellbeing for his own gain. This kind of personal motivation to fight an enemy will probably never again be duplicated.

Cataclysm slipped here. It got many things right, mind you. Deathwing made for a very imposing villain, with a tragic backstory, and horrible goals. BUT, where things fell apart were the new races. Dont get me wrong, I think theyre very cool additions mechanically and visually, but their place in the game makes no sense and their connection to Deathwing is either negligiable to nonexistent. The goblins are sort of connected, but the worgen themselves are completely separate from the events of the cataclysm and their appearance is mere coincidence. Them being an alliance race came about from the invasion of the Forsaken, thats it.

Mists is a goddamn circus. Everything is literally all over the place, and the whole pack only serves as a massive mod pack, adding nothing but new features and toys, but no motivation to explore or even pursue the story. Who's the villan? Mogu? The trolls? I know Garrosh is mentioned to be the big endgame boss for this pack, but why tailor the whole game around pandaria if the villain is the warchief of the horde?

Personally, if they were smart, they would have made this expansion themed after Garrosh's bloodlust and a splintering of the horde into two factions. Lorewise, we can use callbacks from his father Grom and push the lore in that direction.

Then, instead of the monk, make the new class the Blademaster (a leather wearing berserker class that uses only two-handed axes, swords, and polearms) with no new races.

I did that in 5 minutes blizzard, jesus. Fire Ghostcrawler, and hire me!

I really couldnt ask for a better compliment, thank you I'm just trying to create a niche for myself, finding neat combinations worth exploring and designing so people could use them for stories or something.

I think my biggest holdup, is Ive got major OCD and I spend literally hours on just one design and I'll normally scrap 3 full renders before I settle on a final, lol.

I'm rambling now haha, but still, thank you again for supporting me and giving me this kind of helpful feedback.

OCD is the worst when it comes to drawing. I tended to 'have' it, but then realized that by spending hours on small details and then not being happy of the result gets to your psyche really quickly. I'm a lot happier and productive now.

Thanks bud!

Technically its not my design, its the Warrior Tier 3 Dreadnaught from the now-defunct pre-Wrath Naxxramas. I wanted to pay hommage to my favorite WoW armor set by including a distinct element people would notice. I just adjusted the look and color to fit my design.
