So beautifull! Do you know kalevalian symbols? Can you tell what this is? [link]

Hmm.. it reminds cross somehow, i think. But i dont know, i have not seen any just like that before. The style looks typical for ancient finnish jewels though.

Cross? I see it more like a kantele or a bone hand(when I didn't knew about Kalevala )So, you think it's typical for ancient finnish jewls, right? That would be great! A friend, a girl from Finland, said it could also be an arabian symbol or something, cause back in medieval days, they imported much silver from them. But I don't want it to be arabian! I really feel something finnish about it, can't explain...makes me think of lakes and forests, this necklace...so, it must be finnish, right? I must sound like a loony!

Well, as trade was already so international at iron age, it maybe hard to say where some single artifact is originally from. Artifacts with same style could be find from really wide area in the nordic countries and russia. And local people also did make replicas about items they liked, for example from scandinavia is found viking age copies of arabian silver coins of same period.

As there are many jewels with same kind of style found from finland, i think that you can proudly say it's finnish origin

Thanks! People seem to like those wolfcrosses. [link] I think that these are better, especially the axe pendant.

Lately I have made some hammer/axe pendants from iron. It is more interesting material to made pendants like that, I think.

I bought it at an independent store in Michigan, but I see the design in other places. Its a smaller, bright silver hammer. Very delicate, compared to the ones you normally see people wearing.

jarkko1 In reply to CuielRilwen [2009-11-26 06:24:38 +0000 UTC]

I learned sand casting in kansalaisopisto, "folk high school" (i dont know is that good translation). It was three days lenght tutorial. And my friend teached me how to cast tin with silicone mould.
