Description
A commission for It was REALLY fun to do this one. I loved being able to apply the evo style to Disney characters. Nakoma is hypnotized, I believe.The pose was copied/referenced from an old comic book cover.

This would work better if this was Road To El Dorado, not Pocahontas. Because I don't know if the Powhatans had human sacrifice. The only North American tribe I know that had it was the Pawnee. But I also heard that the Hopi might have had human sacrifice

I could actually say this sort of thing would make Pocahontas better.  Think about it, one of the main problems of Pocahontas (and James Cameron's Avatar) is that the Natives are too perfect.  Therefore, giving both natives and settlers their own evils and set of illogical beliefs (like in the Chinua Achebe novel "Things Fall Apart") en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Things_F⦠makes the work better.  It's obvious that Disney wasn't historically accurate with this movie anyway so why not make both sides morally ambiguous?

For the record, when I made that comment, I hadn't seen Pocahontas since I was something like four years old. Β I watched it again since then and while the philosophy of the title character is treated as the ideal of her people, they are not perfect as I had first assumed (I got confused by all the comparisons to Avatar) as they were just as discriminatory as the British settlers and that culture tried to arrange a marriage for Pocahontas herself.
My opinion on Pocahontas is that if it is really Disney's worst movie of the 90s, then that should be used as a point to brag about because it is still a pretty good movie. Β Certainly this was not as good as Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King, although Disney was expecting that sort of success. Β However, it can be viewed as a good movie on its own merits since the hype has died down (although the title character is a Disney Princess, she is not marketed nearly as much as her fellow members), and for that same reason, the debate on whether she is an over-idealized version of a Native American is now irrelevant for the most part.

I don't really remember much about it myself. I do think people over-analyze this stuff nowadays, like they're expecting the media to be completely responsible for how a person behaves and forms his views on everything.
