A great drawing that shows us that artistic license can be a very beautiful thing.

Sometimes copying a photo isn't good enough, sometimes you feel that you should change a piece slightly or make it different in some way than the thing you got it from.. This is called using your artistic license.

I could go on and on about how the nose's bridge is drawn incorrectly or how the bottom of the chin is not the same shape as the original, but I don't have to because this piece works as a whole and looks like a new person while still retaining it's realism. I feel as if the eyes are Staring into my soul. It really is quite beautiful.

My only real critiques would be that the ends of the hair seem a bit more stylised than the rest of the piece, as does the right hand side of the fabric of the chair which I think should be a slight bit darker bearing in mind the two-point lighting the photographer used for the reference photo.

I look forward to seeing where this artist develops their drawing style into, since this drawing shows me that they definitely have a very large amount of talent to play around with e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/>

Thanks for your critique. I never really noticed that the chin was not right until you mentioned it, now it does look way off to me. I also do like to draw hair different by making it look more artistic and a bit surreal. I seem to learn something new every time I draw something. I've only drawn about 12 portraits in my life so I should get much better over time.

I'm still always experimenting with different ways to do hair every time I do, so I know what you mean

First of all I love the documentation of the work! I think this is a great thing to show w/ you final piece. After all we artist don't work hard at creating images (kidding of course) anyway, a lot of artists can draw, but this is very well drawn. You have a great handle on your skills and the tools to use to put those skill to work! When people draw from life the have a tendency to not go dark enough and light enough so you have a grey drawing which become difficult to make sense out of. You have some great value in this drawing. There is a wide variety of tones to create a real beautifull and harmonious quality. I love the folds and creases you were handle to achieve they look very real and nature. Her eyes are perfect and truly capture this girls mood. This is why a drawing is so much more special than a a photo and why is is important to draw what we see. This is how you ee this person and no matter how photo realistic she is we are lucky enough to see you hand and brain at work making sense of her. I am generally a fan of stylized art, but this is drawn I had to comment and say nice job! The hair and lips look incredible man! Just great work. I can't say enough positive about this drawing!

I think is really good. But maybe you could try change BKG - now, when it's in this same pressure of pencil like she, it isn't nice. Looks like one thing. And something is strange in her forehead. Maybe it's to high? But, in the end, I could give you 8/10

i love the detail, and the shading is great, you bring out an attitude expression which can be hard to accomplish which makes it like a real photograph. the only thing i see that i would change is the chin seems to off a tiny bit. but you have to study to notice. other wise i think nicely done. i do love the detail.
