Deer, at least the type like Tyandaga, the appearance one always thinks of with deer, always throw a wrench into my head-canon of Equestrian biology. I can see how the ponies are tool-users, their hooves are large enough to serve in a fashion similar to Lego hands, a less-dextrous thumb and forefinger, enough to grip objects. They can manipulate small things, but Unicorns can use their magic for more fine work. The deer hooves don't seem large enough or have enough surface area to grip things in a manner remotely similar to tool users. I suppose Terran deer do have opposable appendages to begin with, unlike Terran ponies.
