People need to learn to just leave people's beliefs alone. So what if you believe in God? So what if you don't? So what if you like the same gender? So what if you like the opposite gender? I'm all for gay rights too but whether I agree with it or not everyone has their right to their say. I've seen just as much hate, bigotry, and violence coming form the LGBT community as well towards straights and the LDS church. Assholism knows now race, gender, faith, or sexual orientation. But those who are different seem to think their being different makes them being jerks back ok.
I'm ok with him saying these protestors are assholes, but if you're going to be fair you've gotta do both. If you're just a gay pride activist, there's nothing wrong in it but atleast admit you're a gay pride activist.

Yes. Look, i don't agree with what they have to say. And they certainly do not have a right to physically hurt anyone or their property. But if someone wants to stand at a microphone and be a verbal jackass, he has the right. If being a jackass was illegal we wouldnt have that wally wally wallyworld youtube video, we wouldnt have peopleofwalmart.com, and we probably wouldnt have republicans. Yes yes, the world might be a little bit brighter for it, but the cost is oppression. The cost is thought crimes.
Do gay people have a right to be angry? Sure! Ask any girl i've ever asked out, I sure as hell don't like being told no. So the gays also hate being told no. I'm not saying gays that speak out are bad. I'm just saying it's not so black and white.
I mean I've seen many of overly dramatic and asshole gay man who when confronted abotu him being a jackass said "oh you're homophobic". No... I don't care that you're gay, i care you're a loud obnoxious jack ass.
How many people out there are scream out they are special because they are a gay doctor, or a black doctor, or a female doctor? I don't know about you but when i'm sick I just want a Doctor. I really don't care about those other things. And unless being gay, black, or a woman makes you better at being a doctor, or an engineer, or a politician or a whatever... who cares? the whole point of civil rights was for doctors to be doctors, not suddenly segregated and given special treatment because the doctor happens to be gay, black, or a woman.
The right wing extremists that say things like "god will judge you" and "you're immoral" are a jackasses. They deserve your pity if not your apathy. But the ones that speak of special treatment of those that use who/what they are as some sort of an excuse to be a jackass themselves have a valid point. and whether you agree with it or not, did men and women not die equally for one mans right to be gay as another's to be his polar opposite?

And no, no one has died for the right to be gay. For a country that proclaims to be all about freedom I sit here and wonder where the fuck my rights are, but that assholes like this can stand in the streets and scream their hatred. Maybe I wouldn't care so much if I had the same rights that they enjoy and are trying to keep me from having.

In reference to the special treatment, I'm sorry you don't see it from any other points of view than your own. I've seen both. My best friend is gay. And he, I'm assuming like yourself, has asked for no special treatment. He feelings being a movie maker means he's a movie maker. He just happens to be gay. He isn't a gay movie maker, he's just a movie maker. As such he wants to be seen and treated and thought of just like anyone else. The fact he's gay is irrelevant.
The other side of the coin though however is those who feel he's hurting the gay community by not proclaiming proudly he's a GAY MOVIE MAKER! and while he's certainly not hiding it, he's not yelling it at the top of his lungs either. There are those in the gay community who feel since he's not making movies that tell specifically the gay story he's a self hating gay, when frankly he feels there is no sexuality in abstract art. Art is art and love is love.
In addition let me tell you a story... There was this guy named Jay I want to college with. he was big, black, and 400% gay. One day he borrowed my roommates network cable cause he lost his own and needed for a class. He swore he'd give it back after class. After 6 months of hounding Jay for his network cable back We'd learned jay had actually loan the cable out to one of his gay friends who loaned it to someone else and then broke it. All without the original owners (my roommates) knowledge or permission. When confronted about it Jay's first reply was "well you're just being a jerk to me because I'm gay" to which a gay man down the hall said "give him the cable jay" and Jay promptly replied "you're just racist". Seemed like no matter how much Jay was a jackass his being Gay or Black made it ok. Yet if I had borrowed a cable, never returned it, loaned it out without permission and even saw it broken, I would be a Jackass. How come I don't get the freedom to do what I like and be the victim?
There's all kinds of people in each community. Not every straight person hates gays. I don't. And in reference to your no one died for the right to be gay. Well my dad didn't die, thankfully, but he served 26 years in the US military for your right to express how you feel. and in hopes that everyone would have equal liberty, freedom and rights. That means one day the right to be gay. He certainly didn't serve do you couldn't be gay. People like my mother served in the military too. She was one of the first set of women in the military. When my parents met, she was the one in command of the radar station and poor dad was an airmen.
So for every jackass straight conservative, there's one straight people too. Just as for every good honestly looking for equality gay person out there, there's those like Jay looking to exploit it.
My point is hate is hate. It's not black and white.

I've met people who were assholes and were gay too and would use it as justification for getting away with shit. It isn't okay when anyone does something like that because it makes the rest of us pissed off since now we're going to be associated with that kind of behavior.
I beg to differ. Serving in the military has absolutely nothing to do with gay rights. When have we ever been at war with a country to allow us the freedom of loving whomever we choose? Our country is at war with itself on that issue. We still aren't even allowed to serve, not that I ever would. I refuse to put my life on the line for a country that despises me.

Well, when have we ever been at war with a country to give women the right to vote? When have we ever been at war with a country over the right to drink alcohol? When have we ever been at war with a country over many of the rights we have? The first 10, or the bill of rights, is clearly with England but what about the others? The civil war by definition was a war of our country fighting itself. The right of women to vote had no war at all. The civil rights movement while bloody was not a war with any other country. Prohibition was both created and receded by legislation not by bombing anyone. And if you wanted to be really cynical we didn't do WWII for the right of Jews to be Jewish by for other reasons didn't we? Hell we didn't even declare war on Iraq or Afganistan...they were war with "terror". Become somehow you can truly fight, and thing, a "war" with an ideal. They recently changed don't ask don't tell. And I'm sure if you asked gays in the military, let alone some of their non gay friends, there are military personnel out there who want to be role models for you. And feel you deserve rights. The military isn't the enemy. Those men and women both gay and straight fight for all kinds of reasons, and your rights do happen to be one of them. While they aren't hacking off heads screaming "LET ME BE GAY" they do keep the world situation in such a way that the jerks in congress can work on such issues. It's the jerks in congress that ultimately give or deny, (because they commonly dont listen to agendas other than their own), not the military. The military keep the world at bay so hope can happen.

You may not believe me and i know you're already typing "you have no idea what it means to be me" but let me explain. I'm a white, fat, middle class, straight, american male. Being white means most minorities already hate me. And because I seem to have all these opportunities that i cant seem to find in my studio apartment I get no special leg up programs or legislation. I'm white therefore I must be racist and ahead in life. I'm fat so clearly I'm abusing something somewhere, i'm clearly slow and stupid and in the way. I must be a waste of resources. What is this? socialism? Kill the fat boy, he's lesser. I'm middle class so naturally I'm scum to the rich because frankly, I'm not rich. And I'm evil to the poor because I'm not poor. So I'm clearly both not working hard enough and not giving enough. Man living paycheck to pay check and staying out of debt sure is hurting everyone. I'm straight so clearly I'm homophobic. I must think every gay guy wants to sleep with me. And I've surely beaten someone up for it right? I'm male so naturally I think women are objects. I'm a potential creepy rapist and the fact i'm big certainly doesn't downplay that thinking. Being male must mean I want do everything with legs...I hope youre not in a chair I've probably thought about it. And being an american means well, I'm a cowboy and a cop of the world being loud and obnoxious and trying to bomb everyone. If you honestly think I haven't walk around this world feeling like everyone hates me I have. And while no, no one is telling me I cannot love someone else, they are telling me other things I can't. Like I can't goto UofM because they need a black student to fill the quota. I may be a better student but I happen to not be black for just one example.
My point goes back to what it was. Hate is hate. When fighting the monster you walk a thin line of becoming the monster. Does this mean don't fight? no, by all means fight. What it means though is the better person knows how to walk that thin line, and fight in a manner in which they keep the high ground, their composure, and never become the monster they fight. Never become hate.
