Description
The second in my classic horror actor series of caricatures. Karloff not only had a fantastic face that didn't require (yet still often employed) a lot of makeup to convey dread and terror, but also had what I consider the first true "horror voice," not heard again until Vincent Price really made a horror name for himself in the 50's. Karloff's haunting, Victorian voice is classic, and almost more caricatured and plagiarized than his image as Frankenstein's Monster (bit o' trivia here, folks: the monster's name is actually Adam). I wanted to keep a uniform look to this piece that would link it to my Lugosi pic, but still make it definably Karloff. So, I substituted bats for lightening and traded Lugosi's red for Karloff's green (despite the black and white movie, his makeup really was green). I don't know if I'll go further than these two tributes. I would like to create Lon Chaney (senior; junior's a hack), Vincent Price and above all, Christopher Lee. We'll see where time and my interests find me later on....Related content

Oh yeah, he's all about shadows on the front of his face. They could make a new cartoon series with these guys.

I've been going back and looking at these horror caricatures, and I'm so close to updating them with Peter Cushing. Soooo close.....

you should probably have saved the underlighting for price, if you were wanting to do him, since that was really his trademark, and if you're wanting to do lee, you'll HAVE to include the spiky teeth. this however, is a fantastic piece, the simple lines, the basic composition. the intergrated signature. it's alll good.

I actually had Price all drawn up, with the lighting coming at him from one side and the other obscured by shadow. However, I feel like I can do a better likeness, so I'm staring from scratch. It'll be in the same vein as my Karloff and Lugosi, but I don't know if I intend to include little "signature" traits like the lightening and bats from this point on. We'll see, though.

ooo i love it. just in time for october. personally, i would love to see you finish out the series before halloween. but that's just cuz it would make me happy. if you do, i'll send you a picture of me in my halloween costume. i'm dressing as a character from an old TV show

I actually drew up a Vincent Price caricature last night, and just have to color it up and send it out. I'm actually debating whether or not to do Lon Chaney senior. Great horror actor, but it's gonna come down between him and Christopher Lee, and I'm sorry, but muh man Lee's gonna win out every time! So you can count on at least one more caricature in this series, Elora, with possibly Lee to round it out before Halloween!
