I'm pals with cartoonist Denver Brubaker [link] , who draws the awesome web comic "Tales of a Checkered Man" [link] . When we met for coffee recently, I wanted to take a shot at drawing one of his characters. He requested I draw his popular Squid Girl character in a pose similar to the old Farrah Fawcett poster from the 70's. This is what i came up with, and it was a blast to create!Related content

Sonofa... I had an idea for a female squid-themed superhero. It's tough to come up an idea someone hasn't already done before. Cute drawing, though.

There was 'Squid Girl' anime in Japan and a 'Calamari Girl' character in an animated Sabrina episode so I don't think you need to worry.
If a theme becomes common enough, who can one honestly sue?
Besides, 'look and feel' alone do not plagiarism make. (Capcom learned that the hard way)

When in doubt, always look online to see if there's a similar idea. That said, there's plenty of room out there for more than one female squid-themed superhero, I'm sure, so don't let that stop you! Denver Brubaker had a similar situation with another character from his Tales of a Checkered Man comic, where he was called out for having a character similar to someone else's. But Denver pressed on doing his character. So I'm sure he'd tell you the same thing I told you!
