Maradhi is born to a blind lioness in the Flat Plains Pride and a rather large rogue. It soon becomes apparent that Maradhi has inherited his father's size and strength, something that causes unease in the pride. His mother is of royal blood, and while Maradhi is not in any way set to inherit, his bulk and strength would make it fairly easy to wrest the throne from the newborn, female, heir. When his mane begins to grow in, and it becomes apparent that he is going to be a fairly massive lion, the anxious King and Queen send him into exile. Maradhi is angry that he's being forced out of his home and away from his mother and friends, but he isn't so heartless as to try and force them to let him stay. So, with a heavy heart, he leaves the Flat Lands behind.

Rogue life can be hard, but Maradhi's sheer size helps keep other rogues well away, while helping him to take down big enough prey to feed him. Still, it is a lonely life. Maradhi begins to become bitter about his lot in life, cursing the paranoid rulers who had exiled him over something that was never going to happen.

Maradhi occasionally visits the borders of kingdoms and sires cubs for the lionesses seeking such favors. It is during one of these visits that he mates with Nyonda of the Pride Lands. She is a stoic, determined sort of lioness, but once she realizes Maradhi is a gentle enough lion, she befriends him enough to tell him of the prosperity of the Pride Rock Pride. She is best friends with members of the Royal Family, she tells him, and they are the ones who have made the Pride Lands into a haven for all. Maradhi has no interest in a pride where he'll only be viewed as a danger and a threat, but he is intrigued by the picture Nyonda paints with her words. At the very least, the cubs he leaves behind will get a good home.

Some years later, he meets a fellow rogue, a lioness named Cheshi. He stumbles upon her eating a recent kill. Rather than chasing him away, Cheshi offers to share her catch with Maradhi in exchange for some company. It has been too long since she's spoken with another lion, she tells him. All she wants is to talk with someone again, just for a short time. Intrigued, Maradhi stays. He tells her as many tales of his travels as he can think of. He must have impressed her, for she asks him to stay with her, and tell her more stories. Over time, the two fall in love, and become mates.

For a short time, they have their life together, and a daughter, Sarafina, whom Maradhi dotes upon. But when his daughter is still quite young, Maradhi starts getting strange pains in his chest, and starts hacking up blood. His health begins to deteriorate rapidly. Knowing that he will soon leave Cheshi to be lonely again, and leave his daughter with only one parent to care for her, Maradhi knows there is little time left to help him. He remembers the lioness he met in the Pride Lands long ago, and how safe her kingdom was. He knew it was the best place to send his mate and daughter. With the last of his strength, he leads Cheshi and Sarafina to the Pride Lands. He manages to meet the King and Queen, and Nyonda again, and explain their situation. Nyeusi and Shari eagerly take in Sarafina and Cheshi, and Maradhi for as long as he has left. Maradhi is cared for by the pride for a few days, happy with the knowledge that his mate and daughter have a safe home, then he is gone.

EDIT: Well, like an idiot,I forgot that Ahadi and Masilahi weren't King and Queen by the time Maradhi dies. Story has been edited accordingly.

Well, that became more complicated than I was intending.

I knew I wanted Maradhi to have a hand in helping Sarafina and Cheshi to the Pride Lands, but I couldn't figure out how, or why. Then I realized - if he's a rogue, he's probably mated with pride lionesses and given them cubs. I also realized that I had never given Nyonda's daughters a father. It all fit! Cheshi probably felt a little awkward around Nyonda for a bit, but Nyonda's a pretty straight-forward, honest lioness, so it would be hard to see her as the bad guy for long. I can see her and Cheshi getting along after a while.

Anyway, it occurred to me earlier that Maradhi here looked rather like the Flat Landers that I'd been designing, so I decided to make him part Flat Lander.
