Are you serious? They are everywhere down here. I'm guessing they love warm tropical weather.

I live where it's warm and tropical but there are a bunch of introduced anoles that are pushing out the Carolina anole. A. sagrei is the major one, but there are like 20 of them. Some have fins down their backs, some a freaking huge. Some hybridize. It's crazy. And it means I get really excited when I see a Carolina anole!

Is that what mine is? I've never noticed the difference. They move so fast and are so skiddish. Its half impossible to get a really good shot of them close up. I love watching them court females. They really show off.

Yep, that's def carolinensis. They can change color and vary from a dull greenish brown to a very vivid green. So pretty!

Wow, great picture! He looks like he's ready to pounce! These anoles are popular as pets here in the UK, you can get them in pet shops. Are they native to Texas do you know? Do you just find them in the wild like that?

Jess got the D90 and loves it too... I am Cann all the way, but I see why you guys stick with Nikon!!!

I am sort of envious of the camera, but for historical reasons will stick with my Canons... I have always used them. I was going to try to get her the d300, but the thing was HUGE! It would not have been a good fit, so we stuck with the D90...
It would be more convenient if we both got the same brand though... maybe we both can switch to Mamiya or Hasselblad!!! LOL!

Agreed! I think thats why I didn't upload it in the first place, but now with the texture contest in mind, the shot works well.

If lizards weren't so darn much work, I'd want one again. Our Uro was such a hassle though, making sure everything was perfect. I'm much more used to animals with the same basic needs as me! heehee

A rescued Mali Uromastyx, named Molly. We loved her, but the tank has remained empty since she passed.

I know, and those lizards (And many other herps) can suffer A LOT of neglect without dying, but it causes major damage to their bodies. We were lucky to have a GREAT vet, but there was still nothing that could be done.
In a way they're easy to care for, but in my life, it's easier for me to take care of mammals, than herps. I love reptiles a lot, but snuggly pets are my thing!

We've thought about getting a couple tortoises, but haven't yet. We're thinking when we have a bigger place, and also haven't decided on a type.
We thought about a water turtle, and there was one available for a while at a local rescue we could have adopted, but decided against the mess. They really are messy, and we already have 4 tanks to clean!

See, it seems you're having the same issue with your D60 that I have with mine. This is the ONE thing that makes me wish I'd got the Canon instead; the Canon has a DOT that is the focus point...the Nikon has a framing reticle, and for macro shots the focus point is often off center of where you think it is.
All that aside, it's a great shot; I love my D60...I'm sure you'll love yours. While I'm not a great photographer, check out my gallery to see what a D60 can do at all ranges and types of photos.

i wouldnt worry about the head if your trying to emphasize the textures...though if that is the case maybe crop it so that the torso is the main subject

I remember the lack of focus on the head is why I never uploaded it. Now it works for the contest. yay!
