Description This was one of the very first pictures I took with the new camera. I was just messing around to see what it could do. I had forgotten about it until today when I was fishing around looking for something to upload. Yay! In other news, I think something may be wrong with his lip. Poor guy. Critique please.

Maybe this can go into the texture contest? Input on that.

Are you serious? They are everywhere down here. I'm guessing they love warm tropical weather.

I live where it's warm and tropical but there are a bunch of introduced anoles that are pushing out the Carolina anole. A. sagrei is the major one, but there are like 20 of them. Some have fins down their backs, some a freaking huge. Some hybridize. It's crazy. And it means I get really excited when I see a Carolina anole!

Is that what mine is? I've never noticed the difference. They move so fast and are so skiddish. Its half impossible to get a really good shot of them close up. I love watching them court females. They really show off.

Yep, that's def carolinensis. They can change color and vary from a dull greenish brown to a very vivid green. So pretty!

I did. I wasn't sure if I would have time to take any other pics before I leave so I decided to throw it in there. Thanks. Have you entered?

Wow, great picture! He looks like he's ready to pounce! These anoles are popular as pets here in the UK, you can get them in pet shops. Are they native to Texas do you know? Do you just find them in the wild like that?

Yeah, these dudes are everywhere! They are so cool. The boys are quite sexy when they start showing off. You guys don't have them there? We have lots of heat down here and its very humid. Your climate probably wouldn't support them well like ours does.

Serenity-Falls In reply to jayshree [2009-07-05 22:00:42 +0000 UTC]

Nope, you won't get them in this country unless they're in a pet shop or zoo! It's far too cold for them I guess. Too much rain!

OK, I'll keep them then. They are so cute.

Jess got the D90 and loves it too... I am Cann all the way, but I see why you guys stick with Nikon!!!

jayshree In reply to esphotoz [2009-07-06 00:10:20 +0000 UTC]

Really? How does that work? Total bummer you guys don't shoot with the same brand so you could share lenses. I'm totally intrigued that you guys are opposites with cameras. lol

esphotoz In reply to jayshree [2009-07-06 20:46:33 +0000 UTC]

I am sort of envious of the camera, but for historical reasons will stick with my Canons... I have always used them. I was going to try to get her the d300, but the thing was HUGE! It would not have been a good fit, so we stuck with the D90...
It would be more convenient if we both got the same brand though... maybe we both can switch to Mamiya or Hasselblad!!! LOL!

Honey, Hasselblad. I'm sure she won't argue with that.

D300. Nice. I'm no where near ready for that yet. I'm still a noob.

Very nice capture, Jen. I think it's perfect for the contest, so don't worry about the head in this regard. But I would probably crop it a little tighter; perhaps in square

If lizards weren't so darn much work, I'd want one again. Our Uro was such a hassle though, making sure everything was perfect. I'm much more used to animals with the same basic needs as me! heehee

What kind of lizard did you have?

DreamEyce In reply to jayshree [2009-07-03 05:27:21 +0000 UTC]

A rescued Mali Uromastyx, named Molly. We loved her, but the tank has remained empty since she passed.

jayshree In reply to DreamEyce [2009-07-03 06:15:25 +0000 UTC]

idk what that is. Is there a pic in your gallery?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DreamEyce In reply to jayshree [2009-07-03 07:04:56 +0000 UTC]

Molly was before DA. I'd have to see if I can dig up pics of her! That was back before highspeed was even available in our area! haha She passed away just a little after Dea was born, so about 4 years ago.

If you google Mali Uromastyx, you can see what they look like. They're hot dessert lizards, and females are pretty plain. Molly was really malnourished, and growth was stunted from major neglect before we got her. She passed to kidney failure, caused by the damage her previous owner caused

DreamEyce In reply to jayshree [2009-07-03 07:47:59 +0000 UTC]

I know, and those lizards (And many other herps) can suffer A LOT of neglect without dying, but it causes major damage to their bodies. We were lucky to have a GREAT vet, but there was still nothing that could be done.

In a way they're easy to care for, but in my life, it's easier for me to take care of mammals, than herps. I love reptiles a lot, but snuggly pets are my thing!

I have 1 turtle and 1 tortoise. The rest are snugglies.

DreamEyce In reply to jayshree [2009-07-03 07:54:18 +0000 UTC]

We've thought about getting a couple tortoises, but haven't yet. We're thinking when we have a bigger place, and also haven't decided on a type.

We thought about a water turtle, and there was one available for a while at a local rescue we could have adopted, but decided against the mess. They really are messy, and we already have 4 tanks to clean!

My water turtle is outside in his own pool. I just dump it out every few days, but not too often cuz I like him to have some coverage/green in there.

I just got the tortoise like 3 weeks ago. I am in love.

See, it seems you're having the same issue with your D60 that I have with mine. This is the ONE thing that makes me wish I'd got the Canon instead; the Canon has a DOT that is the focus point...the Nikon has a framing reticle, and for macro shots the focus point is often off center of where you think it is.

All that aside, it's a great shot; I love my D60...I'm sure you'll love yours. While I'm not a great photographer, check out my gallery to see what a D60 can do at all ranges and types of photos.

jayshree In reply to Sithspit [2009-07-03 05:17:54 +0000 UTC]

I'm thinking it may have been me screwing around with the camera more than the focus issue. (If I remember correctly) I'm sure it was more my inexperience with the camera. Thank you for faving btw.

i wouldnt worry about the head if your trying to emphasize the textures...though if that is the case maybe crop it so that the torso is the main subject
