Description Having Costume-Con (a travelling conference all about costuming I highly highly recommend going to if it's ever in your area) come to Toronto again has been a big deal around here, and when thinking of possible costume ideas, a friend of mine had the fantastic idea to cosplay the ridiculous prince-princess crossdressing outfits of Sakura and Syaoran from Cardcaptor Sakura but many the fancy as all heck! I said yes immediately~

Making Sakura was a lot of fun in being slightly creative in how to do it and make it fancy. I immidately thought of making the bulk of the costume out of dupioni silk... and boy I'm glad I did! So worth the money, and the vibrant colours I picked were perfect~

Only time a pattern was used and then modified was for the hat, made up of crazy thick interfacing + fosshape and covered in my silk. Otherwise all patterns were drafted by me. This was also baby's first resin casting adventure, and I'm super happy with how the gems turned out! Other interesting things: these bloomers are actually two! Becuase I only had a finite amount of ivory dupioni to use and I wanted the bloomers to be crazy poofy like they appear in the image, there's a pair of cotton bloomers made from 4 metres of starched cotton underneith the silk pair. as a set of 'bloomer petticoat' as it were. The ruffles at the end of the jacket and the collar + cravat are also all attached to a shirt underneith made from a thick jersey. Finally, the cape is all crazy gathered from 4 yards of lining and hand stitched all along the top of the jacket to have it stay in and be giant and awesome.

My syaoran is grumblyowl on tumblr as well~
