This picture reminds me I hadn't had time to finish the designs around the back, but oh well, I still absolutely love this pic!
I also love this pic because it showcases the kink in the hood I was able to create via adding wire!Man, I wish I could think of better titles for these DX My mind is blank!

Costume: God Tier Rose Lalonde, the Seer of Light
Series: Homestuck
Main body of the dress is made of this...some sort of polyester/spandex thing. It's awesome though. I found it in the bargain section of a fabricland and yoinked all they had left. I love the colour and how well it's been able to drape! The brighter orange is all a stretch twill. All patterns were drafted. The entire costume was hemmed using an embroidery stitch on my machine to add a little more detail to the costume. Headband was originally a plain plastic white which I hand sewed the fabric onto.
The applique was definitely the hardest part of this costume. All fabric pieces itself I made one stencil for and cut the rest out of those to ensure they were all the same, and they were bonded to the costume with heat n'bond. Then, I hand-stitched around all the pieces with a slightly contrasting embroidery thread. I'm so happy it turned out nice and not hokey XD

More seriously, a lot of what you'll get from a cosplay I find depends on how much time and effort you're willing to put into it, plus always trying to go a bit of that extra mile to add in something a little bit new to the design. Rose's godtier is relatively simple, but I tried to take that extra step with some things like the embroidery. I didn't have to do either of those things, but taking that time to do it made it just that little bit better, at least for me. Obviously great cosplays can still be created if you don't do that, but I find it often really shows and makes you stand out just a little bit more from the crowd

Thanks! It was really really easy actually XD The hood has a seam down the middle and I literally just glued in ... 12? gauge wire right into it and folded it back inside. Makes it malleable too and I can move it around if I want! Best decision ever to do at 4:30 in the morning >.>

Yea it took like 10 minutes! well, baring some slight changes and forcing the wire back in and having to cut out some pieces since it wasn't fitting at the point of the hood and yea >.> Even the simplest little details that don't even take very long can make a big difference

Once I had to stay up pretty late to finish the hat for my Naoto cosplay, but I think I'd start sewing my fingers together if I were up THAT late lol!

That's essentially what starts to happen XD I ended up sewing one of the sleeves for this costumes inside out at one point, but that was almost more because the two different sides of the fabric were kinda hard to distinguish at a point! silly fabric.

Oh jeez. D: I think one part of my scarf is actually the wrong side of the fabric showing, but it's thankfully not too noticeable. OvO;
