Description Riding the Waves

Mowgli was helping his parents fill their new storage shed. After they completed their storage shed the other day they felt their days work was over. They decided they would begin filling it up with food for the next day and retired to their shack on the beach.

When the next day came after a quick breakfast of coconut milk and some fruits Moon, Mirari with their son Mowgli went into the jungle to begin their designated duty of the day. Filling up their newest structure with as much food as they could.

Mirari was in the process of making more baskets to use while Moon and Mowgli were doing the heavy work of collecting fruit from as many tree’s as they could find in the jungle and carrying loaded baskets to the shed.

Moon handled the carrying of the baskets when they were full while, Mowgli due to his small size was appointment to climb up the trees and yank any fruits from the top of the tree’s or pull them down. His Father below tree would catch them in the basket or if he wasn’t around the tree simply pick them up after his son handled them at getting them down.

“You’re doing a great job up there, son!” He called up as he picked up some mango’s and placed them in the basket he was holding under his right arm.

“Thanks, Father!” Mowgli called back down below yanking another mango free but he had been working all morning. It was already near mid day as he had spent it climbing trees and pulling fruits down. Mowgli was a bit tired from all the work that he didn’t realize that his vision started to blur then when he tried to position himself to reach for another mango his legs began to wobble having been wrapping around the small bodies of the trees and when reached for the fruit he couldn’t hold on anymore and momentarily released his grip and he started to slide.

“Whoa!” Mowgli yelped quickly waking back up and retightened his legs on the tree. Moon looked back up after he heard his son suddenly yelp.

“Mowgli are you alright!” He called and when Mowgli looked down at him and could tell the boy was
pretty tired. They had been gathering food and stocking the storage shed since early in the morning perhaps it was time to call it a day before like what Moon usually would do work till he would exhaust himself or allow an accident to happen. He would not let Mowgli make his mistakes.
“Why don’t you come down now? We’ve done enough for today!” Moon told his child.

“Okay, father.” Mowgli tried to shimmy down but his tired state didn’t make him as agile or steady when he first started. Again he lost his grip and this time he fell completely off the tree when he was halfway down. Thankfully Moon was staying just under him knowing that something was going to happen. Mowgli landed into the awaiting arms of his father.

“Oh, sorry.” Mowgli sheepishly said feeling rather embarrassed by what happened only for Moon to laugh.

“Nothing to apologize for, my boy.” Moon assured setting his child down on his feet and petted his head. “If you’re feeling tired do inform me about it and we can take a break. I don’t want to see you making the same mistakes as I have.”

“Yes, father.” Mowgli nodded with a yawn showing that the day’s work had tired him out and he would require some much needed rest.

“Come let’s go retrieve your mother.” Moon gestured for the boy to follow him as he re-gathered the basket of fruit and walked through the jungle back to where their storage shed resided.

Mowgli followed his father back out to the jungle and came upon the tiny river where they found Mirari humming a sweet melody as she was putting together another basket made from coconut leaves from the tree’s.

“Mirari?” Moon called to the lovely wolf who noticed her love and her son coming out of the jungle and Mowgli was looking rather tired. She stood up putting down her latest basket that was halfway made coming up to them.

Looking at how tired Mowgli was she folded her arms and looked, Moon with playful anger. “Did you overwork our child?” She asked in mocking anger.

Moon put down the basket he was carrying and folded his arms at Mirari giving her the same look. “I did no such thing!” He playfully mocked.

Mirari giggled reaching over and pulled him into a warm hug and quick kiss on his lips. “He takes after you too much. As I feared.” She laughed making Moon laugh as Mowgli rubbed his eyes too tired to really pay attention to what they were saying.

“Oh, you!” Moon gave Mirari playful nudge as Mirari did the same back to him. Mirari then looked at her child to see how exhausted he was.

“Oh, sweety you’re so tired.” Mirari cooed bringing Mowgli to her said and gently rubbed his face and back. “Lets take you home and you can get some rest.” Mirari gently pulled Mowgli along.

“Are you coming too, Moon?” She asked getting a shake from him.

“No, I have finish putting these fruits away and seal up the shed. And I think our son may would like the rest of his day to be filled with joy. I think boarding might suit him.” Moon implied in the end as Mirari got the idea nodding at him before Moon picked up the basket and headed for the shed as Mirari led Mowgli back to the beach.

Mirari had to straighten out Mowgli as they walked he clearly had overdone himself this day and it was hardly noon yet. Much like Moon he would work to the bone to make sure the family would have what it needed or finished what it had begun. It pleased her to know that Mowgli was hard working and that would do well for him in life. When it appeared that he was about collapse she picked him up under his legs and waist and carried him. Mowgli felt a bit awkward that his mother was carrying him like that but he was so tired he didn’t mind it.

Soon enough they reached their home with the shack on the beach. She carried him inside and gently placed him on his clothed hammock.

“Rest well, my little starfish.” Mirari cooed giving her child a soft kiss on his head having fell asleep completely before she placed him in the hammock. She quietly left the shack to let her child take his well deserved nap. She sat on the beach and looked out upon the ocean in front her. She smiled listening to the soft waves and the seagull’s flying around cawing out looking for something
that could be something to snatch in their beaks.

Life couldn’t possibly be any better. She had a hard working mate and an adopted child that takes after him. He learns well and is well mannered. Mowgli is a good boy and no doubt in time he will be a fine young man. It pained her to know that being on a secluded island with just her and Moon, Mowgli was alone when it came to being what he is. A Human.

He grew up with no one but his foster parents to play with and they were the ones to tell him about how humans behaved and lived. Given to how they were living the secluded life Mowgli did take it all well but she wished she could give him more. Hopefully in the coming times when the time would feel right they would take him to the mainlands so he would get to see how his own kind would live and true learn of man’s culture. He may have made his choice to stay with his parents but it would still be nice for him to see his own and learn from them other than what she and Moon could tell him about during their times when they lived around humans and their land walking cousins.
However she didn’t dwell on that. Life was perfect as it was. Mowgli was happy with them and she and Moon were just as happy with their child. They were a family of the most unlikely of sorts and they had turned out quite well. She heard some rustling come from the jungle behind her and she turned to look to see it was Moon carrying something under his arm.

“Hello Moon.” Mirari greeted turning over laying on her belly kicking her feet in the air back and forth smiling warmly at him.

“Hey there, my love.” Moon dropped what he was carrying got down on his belly and laid in front of Mirari staring into her beautiful eyes.

“I see yet again you have not only spent time away to make yet another project.” She teased and looked at the shack where Mowgli was resting within. “And it seems our child is taking after you a little too much. But at least he knows when he has had enough for work for the day.”

Moon took that remark as playfully offensive. “Perhaps but least he will be strong and full of knowledge.”

Mirari giggled. “Or you’re not that bright as you may think, Moon.” She teased and Moon then put on a slightly angry look.

“What’s that supposed mean?” He huffed.

“How about the time when we first went to land you claimed you could a coconut from a tree.” She reminded with a chuckle as it was a plesent memory. At least for her. “By kicking the tree. You gained not only a bunch of them but your cute head got some nice lumps on it!” She left taking her hand and stroking the top of Moon’s head as he snorted.

“You don’t have to remind me of my mistakes.” He grumbled.

Mirari giggled again leaning over and kissed him on his lips. “You don’t have to be the smartest in the world. You’re good enough as it is and you can provide quite the humorous display from time to time.”

Moon smiled crawling up to her and wrapped his arms around Mirari and pulled her into him. “I know I am not perfect. I have made mistakes but I try to correct myself and knowing I have you to show me my errors.”

“I know. Otherwise that thick head of yours would have far too many lumps on it.” She laughed again.

“Oh you…” Moon laughed holding her close hugging her tightly. Mirari wasn’t perfect either. But to him she was. Even if at times she knew how to work her way into someone and get on their nerves. She was with him for so many years that she knew him all too way and has seen so much. And some cases too much given to the incident with his first time gathering coconuts.

They sat together in their loving embrace for almost two hours looking upon the beautiful sea and occasionally sharing in their hearts passion with each other. Anytime their son was preoccupied they would at times use their private moments to enjoy their company in the passion that their hearts connected to each other.

Their ears pricked when they heard yawning coming from the shack indicating that their child had awoken. Quickly they adjusted themselves and made sure they didn’t look like they were doing anything that someone of Mowgli’s age was not fit to see or know about till he was at a higher age.
They waited until they saw their son, Mowgli walked out of the shack stretching out his arms and rubbed his eyes.

“There’s our hard working son!” Mirari pointed out. “Hello Mowgli! Did you have a good rest?”

Mowgli after rubbing eyes again looked to see his Mother and Father were sitting together close by the shack. “Yes I did, Thank you.”

“Well very good then.” Moon said standing up and walked over to his child putting and arm around him. “I think it’s time we had a little fun.”

“What do you have in mind, Father?” Mowgli asked.

“I can assure you, Mowgli it has nothing to do with watching coconuts drop on him.” Mirari laughed as Moon shot her a glare and Mowgli looked up to him.

“What she mean by that?” He asked.

“Nothing you need to know at the moment. Now allow me to show you what I had made just for you.” Moon said letting go of Mowgli and went over back to Mirari and retrieved what I had made.

When He grabbed and turned around Mowgli got a good view of what it was. It looked to be a board of some sort. It was flat in front and curved at an angle at the left and right of it from the top and the board looked to be half of Mowgli’s size when Moon came up to him and placed in Mowgli’s hands.
“What’s this, Father?” Mowgli asked looking over the board seeing how it was very smooth and thick. It was made from one of the tree’s deep within the jungle and carved and smoothed out to lie upon without getting splinters.

“That child is what your kind calls a wave board. I made it myself.” Moon answered feeling rather proud of his work.

“And what is it for?” Mowgli asked next.

“Humans back at the mainland’s enjoyed swimming and partaking in play in water just like we do. But they did something that was the most thrilling of them all. Something even Mirari and I had not thought of doing once till we saw it despite what we are.” Moon explained.

“And that was?” Mowgli said as Moon started to lead him to the water.

“They called it “Wave riding” or “Boarding.” said Moon as he and his son reached the water and he lead him into the deeper end where Moon changed his from in a tiny flash of light into his mer-wolf form with a blue finned tail.

Mowgli settled in the water still holding the board close. It floated when he placed it in the water and he climbed onto it and he floated upon it as it barely sunk and all that was mostly touching the water was his legs.

“What the boards are for is riding waves of various sizes.” Moon continuing to explain as he waved his fin in the water getting right under, Mowgli’s board that he made and pulled him into the sea as Mirari watched from ashore. This was Moon and Mowgli’s time together in the water and thought it was best to let them both have some time with just each other sitting in the sand right next to the water as it trickled on her toes.

“So Mowgli with your new board you can ride the waves much like the humans on the mainland’s.” Moon smiled as he dragged his child to where the waves would gain a good amount of height.

“How do you do it?” Mowgli asked as the water started to ungulate

“Simple, Mowgli. It’s not difficult to explain. You simply wait around till the waves start to form and let them carry you.” Moon answered. “In fact here you go!”

Moon let go of the board as the current made a nice sized wave and it started to carry, Mowgli on his new board.

Mowgli held onto the board tightly as the wave started to carry him towards the shore. He was a bit nervious at first but then he started to feel joy as he didn’t even move. The water carried him on the tiny wave the collapsed sending him downwards flowing towards the show and almost up to the bank. He got off the board and raised his arms excitingly.

“That was so fun!” He beamed loudly as Mirari applauded her son.

“Great job, Mowgli!” She cheered clapping her hands together.

“Well ridden, my son.” Moon complimented as he followed Mowgli close as the wave carried Mowgli to just make sure nothing bad would happen.

He was met by a hug around his waist. “Thank you so much, Father. This board is amazing!” Moon laughed and wrapped his arms around Mowgli.

“Anything for my boy. Your hard work deserved something to bring joy to you.” Moon said as Mowgli let go and grabbed his board.

“Come on! I’d like to do it again!” Mowgli begged trying to yank on his father.

“Alright, alright. Get on and I’ll take you out again.” Moon said as Mowgli got back on the board and Moon pulled Mowgli out to sea again from the board. Once in place Mowgli again was riding another waved when the current made it.

As Mowgli  was carried upon the wave he was riding he was enjoying himself so much that he let go of the board a little but that proved to be his mistake as he lost control and tumbled off the board and twirled into the water as the waved splashed down. Mirari put her hands over her mouth at the sight.

But as the wave dissipated Mowgli emerged from the water and again he was thrilled. He laughed and cheered at how amazing the experience was and it relieved Mirari that her son was okay and Moon came up to Mowgli having been quite amused by the way his son tumbled about in the water.

“You alright?” He asked.

“Alright!? That was so fun! I want to stay out here all day and do this!” Mowgli laughed and cheered.

“Then so shall it be, Mowgli. We’ve all worked rather hard today so let’s ride the waves together.” Moon had grabbed the board when Mowgli lost it when he fell off and handed back to Mowgli and once more pulled him out to sea.

For the rest of the day, Moon and Mowgli were riding the waves together. Mowgli numerous times would lose his grip and collapse into the sea. A couple times needing his father to assist in regaining himself to get to the surface. Mowgli would offer Moon to try and use the board. Though Moon made it for his son he rode the waves with despite not needing such a thing to enjoy the rising and collapsing waters he transformed into his two legged form so he could enjoy it better with his boy.

Mirari eventually joined in the fun running and diving into the water not changing into her mer-wolf so they could all enjoy themselves in the water with Mowgli’s board together.

Mowgli couldn’t remember the last time they had this much fun. He along with his parents took a turn with the board and Moon eventually realized that perhaps he should make a board for himself and Mirari as well. Another project for another time.  All that mattered now was the joy he was having along with those that he loved the most.

As the hours rolled by too fast given to how much fun they were having in the water enjoying wave riding like the humans on the main land’s the sun started to go down. Their stomachs were grumbling and they would need dinner. Calling it a day in the water they all swam for shore ready to find something to eat for dinner and this time it was Moon’s turn to find something for them all to fill their empty bellies with.
