Description Exploring the Reefs

Mowgli was enjoying himself on this sunny and clear day. He had already done some chores around the shack and had asked if he could take his board out and ride the waves which he had gained permission under the watchful eye of, Mirari. Moon would’ve loved to go out and join in his son’s fun but he had another project in mind that required his attention within the jungle.

Mirari sat at the edge of the beach and watched her child ride the tiny waves just off the shallow shores. The Warm waters kept most predators of the sea away from the island and the soft surf kept the waters from being a danger. Her child was a proficient swimmer as they taught him how to swim at an early age.

It didn’t take long for Mowgli in the days when he was learning how to swim by using his arms and legs and how to float when he would be exhausted to become almost like what, Moon and Mirari, were. The Sea was their domain though had chosen to live a much different life since they day they found, Mowgli. It wasn’t what they once anticipated but life changed all the better now they had son in their lives. Not the son they thought of having but one they both cherish so much and would see to it that he grows up into someone who would be an example to the world one day.

“Are you having fun, Sweety?” Mirari called out to, Mowgli as he just rode another wave that brought him close to shore as he was laughing hysterically from the good time he was having.
“I am, Mom!” He answered before turning around on the board and paddled his hands through the water swimming back out to sea to ride another tiny wave when it would form.

Mirari laughed. “That’s my little starfish!” she cheered as seeing her child enjoy himself made her heart warm. He was having the time of his life due to a special gift that was made by the most hard working individual she was proud to share her heart with, Moon.

She could not even begin to count her blessings. Everything was perfect. She had a loving, strong and hard working mate. A Kind, gentle and well-behaved son. A whole uncharted and mostly unexplored island and the surrounding sea which both it and the island provided enough food and water to sustain them for their whole lifetimes. It was all anything anyone could ever ask for.

“Hey, Mirari!” A voice called out from behind the lovely merwolf. She turned to see it was, Moon who was rather exhausted from what he was working on in the jungle.

“Hello Moon. Tired yourself out, yet again?” She laughed as she held out her arms and Moon laid down and rested his head upon her lap as she stroked his sweat soaked hair.

“Yes.” Moon admitted letting his mate stroke his head as her attention made him feel a bit better. He turned his head to look at the sea and saw, Mowgli riding the waves with the board he made for him. Mowgli tried to stand up and balance himself on the board. However he lost his balance quickly and tumbled into the sea but within a second he rose back up splashing out with childish laughter and swam to retrieve his board for another run.

“I see he has yet to grow tired of that board.” Moon chuckled as, Mirari did as well.

“I don’t think he ever will.” Mirari claimed looking down at Moon. “And it’s all thanks to you, my dear.”

He looked up into her crystal eyes. “Anything to make you and our son happy.” He smiled before, Mirari leaned down and they both shared a passionate kiss. As they went about their passion they didn’t realize they son had felt he had done enough wave riding for the day.

“Mom! Dad!” Mowgli called standing in front of his parents who had no idea their child was catching them in their time of passion causing them both to jolt up as, Moon nearly hit, Mirari in the chin if she didn’t lean back far enough as, Moon quickly sat up and they both blushed slightly. It’s not like their son has never seen them kiss before but it was a bit embarrassing when he did catch them in the act.

“Oh! Uh…” Moon cleared his throat turning his body to face his son while sitting. “…you all finished with riding the waves, Mowgli?” He asked breaking the silence of the awkward situation.
Mowgli smiled. “Yes! I had a lot of fun, Father. I was wondering if we all could go and do something together?” He asked.

“That sounds wonderful!” Mirari beamed clapping her hands together looking at, Moon. “What do you think?”

Moon nodded in agreement but he was rather tired from the project he was working on in the jungle. “I would love to, Mowgli. But I am rather exhausted from my work. I think I may take a nap. My apologies.” He yawned and felt a bit down not being able to join with his son in something they could do but, Mowgli wrapped his arms around his father.

“Its okay, Father. If you’re tired me and mom can do something and we can do something together later.” He said understandably hugging his father tightly as, Moon smiled glad to see he didn’t disappoint his son and hugged him back as, Mirari adored the scene. Mowgli showed great care to both his parents. Hardly ever would he complain or whine. He always had an understanding as his parents taught him good manners and the value of another’s feelings.

After they hug was finished they all stood up. “Well I am going back to the shack and get some rest.” He said stretching his arms out and unintentionally showing off his toned muscles that made, Mirari smile more. The Hard work her mate always did made him into bulked figure he was and it was always and admirable sight.

“Alright, my love. Rest well and happy dreams.” Mirari wished to him but he embraced her holding her around her waist.

“Why dream when I have is everything I could want.” He teased before kissing his beloved again as, Mowgli smiled as they shared their kissed without being embarrassed this time. After they were done, Moon released her and headed to the shack and waved at them before stepping into it.
Mirari sighed dreamingly as Moon just like how he stated before was everything she could want along with, Mowgli. It’s like they were already living a dream but one they never would have to wake up from.

“Mother?” Mowgli tapped on her arm as she stood in place lost in her happy thoughts making her cringe when he tapped on her arm.

“Oh! Mowgli! Sorry there.” She giggled sheepishly. “So…dear. Have anything in mind you want to do?”
Mowgli in his eagerness of wanting his parents to do something together with him he didn’t really think of what he wanted to do. He put his finger to his chin and tried to think. Mirari however had an idea.

“Since its only you and me. How about I take you see the reefs?” She suggested.

“The Reefs! That would be great!” Mowgli beamed as it was a very long time since he had seen the majestic coral reefs.

“Then please retrieve your board and let’s get moving, shall we?” Mirari insisted as Mowgli grabbed his board quickly before coming back to his mother’s side. Taking her son’s hand they began to walk along the beach heading in a direction that took them around the edge of the jungle and from the sight of their shack home.

They walked on the beach that took them farther away from their home. The Walk was nearly silent but the seagulls gawking in the sky and the waves crashing on the beach kept it from being nearly silent. Mowgli and Mirari continued their walk together as they would admire both the sea and the jungle. Such sights would never be tiresome given to how unlike the mainlands where civilizations reined a portion of the lands this island was left untouched.

Though such places that had civilizations and those who colonize them had its share of wonders filled with people and magnificent wonders of their own creations with streets and buildings there was nothing more wondrous than nature itself. Though nearly all beings even those that lived the civilized life abided by natural law and respected nature it was usually a lot better when there were places that were left untouched by those that claimed lands to build up villages and towns.
Mowgli often wondered about the mainlands. His parents had promised him one day when he was old enough and could make the journey to the nearest one they would go together to show him his own kind as well as have him see how different life is there among the one they live.

Though he did wish to see how different life is in other places nothing more mattered to him than living with the two that had been the greatest parents anyone could ever ask for.

“We’re here!” Mirari stated as they stopped in place and they stood out in front of the sea where there were rocks and boulders out in the water in various places. Some of them were like tiny little islands one could crawl and stand upon and some had shapes that almost resembled a living being. Just beyond those rocks were reefs filled with countless sea life and marvelous colored corals.

“I can’t believe we haven’t been here in so long!” Mowgli chirped as he then ran for the water and threw down his board onto the surface and jumped upon the board let it carry him onto the water but again lost his balance and collapsed into the sea as, Mirari laughed loudly as her son’s unbalanced wipeout was hilarious and Mowgli resurfaced he laughed too.

“Are you coming, Mom?” He insisted.

“I'll be right there!” Mirari called back and ran for the ocean and dived into it. Once she was in deeper water within a flash of light she came back up to the surface and threw her hair back splashing out the water reveled her pink finned tail.

Once she settled into the water she swam over to her son who retrieved his board laying his arms over it as, Mirari did the same on the other side.

“Ready, sweety?” She asked getting a smile and a nod from, Mowgli. Gently pulling on the board with, Mowgli holding onto it with soft flicking of her tail she pulled him out to sea.

Mirari pulled him out past the many tiny islands of rocks and boulders as they shore line disappeared from beneath them taking them into deeper waters. Within a couple of minutes of carrying, Mowgli out to the sea where the current slightly pulled on them but, Mirari kept a firm grip on the board. She looked down below the surface to see they had made it to where they wanted. Now all she had to do was show her son what lied beneath water.

“Lets make sure your board doesn’t go anywhere. Ill be back quickly.” Mirari said before diving below the water flicking her tail above the surface before disappearing below as, Mowgli remained on the board.

He looked to see they were very far from the shore. It was rare for him to be out so far. If he wasn’t with one of his parents they would not allow him to go out as the ocean current could easily carry him away and even though most predators of the sea stayed clear from the warm waters of the tropical island it still wasn’t wise to be out so far without someone to watch over him.

He understood his parents warning and would not seek out trouble or danger. He was thankful they looked out for him as they did and he would try to be a good son for them. They have done so much for him and he owed to them to listen to what they say and not be reckless. He recalled a tale his father told him when he first encountered a shark and because he didn’t listen the shark nearly took a bite out of him but thankfully thanks to some quick reflexes he managed to avoid it though he said he got a good reprimanding for his actions.

Moon didn’t want to see his son make the mistakes he made when he was around, Mowgli’s age and Mowgli promised he would do his best not to.

Two hands grabbed the board which almost made, Mowgli jump in fright but realized it was only his mothers hands that some long pieces of seaweed that were tied around the board. Mowgli took a quick breath and dived his head underwater to see it indeed was his mother who had tied a long string of seaweed together to large rock on the sea floor before going back up for air. Within a few moments, Mirari resurfaced.

“There we go, Mowgli. While we explore the board your father made for you should not drift off.” She explained with a kind smile as, Mowgli nodded.

Mirari moved around the board and took hold of her child. “Are you ready?”

“You bet, I am!” Mowgli smiled.

“Take a deep breath, my child.” She said as Mowgli did so and just as he shut his mouth, Mirari quickly carried him down from the surface and showed him the otherworldly sights below.
His breath held as best he could, Mirari took him down to the reefs where, Mowgli could see all sorts of fish all different sizes, shapes and colors. Some of them were swimming alone while some were in schools of dozens even a hundred or so. The Reefs were like rainbows. Colors that spanned across the sea floor like a beautiful display of lights.

After thirty seconds, Mirari rushed, Mowgli back up to the surface to allow him to take a breath of air before bringing him back down under to allow him to see more. While they were below some of the fish brushed against, Mowgli’s skin almost tickling him. Wanting to get a good feel of the ocean and move around a bit he left his mother’s side and swam close to the reefs to get a better look.

A lot of fish swam away at the sight of, Mowgli while some floated in place and looked back at the two legged being looking at him. Again when he needed air he signaled his mother to take him back to the surface and after he caught his breath they went back down one more time.

Mowgli again swam alone with his mother near him when he needed to go back up. Mirari loved seeing her child so happy. She would say something to show for it but underwater, Mowgli would not be able to speak as she could. Not to tempt him to lose his air so fast or make him feel different she remained silent as Mowgli continued to look around the glorious domain under the sea but then he turned to his, Mother and smiled at her taking her hand.

With the best smile he could make he was trying to thank her for bringing him out there and for showing him something he had not seen in some time. Mirari squeezed her child’s hand and was just as happy as he was but then something suddenly made the sea floor go dark catching them by surprise.

They looked up to see something gigantic move over them. Mirari thought at first it was a whale but they don’t usually come close to where the shorelines would be and when she looked up she saw that it wasn’t a creature but a ship on the surface. A rather large ship that casted a dark shadow over the sea floor causing most of the fish to disperse from the sudden appearance.

Mowgli was curious at the sight but then he pulled on his mother telling her he needed to get back to the surface. Pulling him in close she carried him to the surface quickly far behind where the ship was going but as she was heading above she saw the ship colliding where she had, Mowgli’s board tied in place and heard crack in sea knowing what had come from it. She broke the surface as, Mowgli held his breath longer than usual and coughed up some water that managed to get into his mouth.

“Are you alright?” Mirari asked stroking her child’s hair trying to comfort him as he was bit waterlogged.

Mowgli coughed out the last of water and nodded. “I’m okay, Mother.” He looked behind her to see the massive ship was moving at a high speed in the distance. “Is that a ship?” He asked.

Mirari turned around still holding onto her child protectively. She looked upon the gigantic vessel and was both amazed and shocked. “Indeed it is.” She confirmed. “But this island is uncharted and a vessel of that size has to be carrying a good number of people on it. But this is odd.”

“What is?” Mowgli asked again.

Mirari had seen her fair share of ships before and understood the majority about them and what they are but as she looked to the top of the mast she saw there was no flag on it. “That Ship has no flag. A flag represents either the ships nation, intention or dignify of the crew upon it.”
The Ship far ahead of them continue to sail as it was moving quickly and turned slightly to the right that took it around the island and eventually went out of sight.

“What are you thinking, Mom?” Mowgli could feel his mother shiver in worry.

“I don’t think this island will be only inhabited by just us anymore. If that ship judging by the size which makes it a Galleon and with it sailing so close to the land it means the crew is looking to make landfall somewhere.” She explained and she shook with worry as a ship no flag being flown on it could mean anything.

“My board!” Mowgli yelled seeing in the distance pieces of his board were floating around breaking out of his mothers hold and swam to where they left the board tied in place and anchored. Mowgli swam in place grabbing a couple of pieces of what remained of his board that used so much in the short time he had it.

“They ruined my board!” laminated Mowgli as he was greatly upset at the loss of the gift his father made for him. Mirari swam up to her child and cooed sympathy at him embracing him in a hug.

“I’m so sorry, Mowgli. I’m sure your Father can make you a new one. With which we must get back for he must be informed about that this island possibly has visitors.” She declared immediately swimming as fast as she could to the shore holding, Mowgli as he let go of the remains of his board and held onto his mother as she made her way to the shoreline.

Once they got to the shore she immediately changed into her two legged form and helped, Mowgli out of the water. “Come. We must return home quickly.” She stated as she began to run with, Mowgli following close behind her.

Little did they both know that what, Mirari claimed is true. The Island was about to visitors and it would gain new inhabitants but unlike the three that already dwelled on the island they would be anything but a friendly bunch.

Indeed. A ship that nearly runs through, Mowgli's gift and has no flag does call for something bad...

Glad you love it
