Hikki can mate with males of any of the other Venrock subspecies, of which there are plenty. In doing so, they can give birth to male or female Venrocks, but there has never been a recorded male Hikki birth.

He's a Venrock, there are no male Hikki, actually.

I've drawn quite a few of all of the above, if you haven't checked out the rest of my gallery. Thanks for the comment!
Also...I might have to draw up a bellydancing Hikki now.

Gotta love a sci-fi/fantasy illustrator who's clearly seen their share of big snakes, what with the sense of sheer mass conveyed by those coil-creases. Not that the mammalian portion isn't riveting in its own right.
Random notes/queries; feel free to disregard:
-Would her race's dental arrangement be humanoid or serpentine (i.e. rows o' pointy meal-trappers)?
-Live birth or egg(s)?
-So based on one of your above responses, females of this species can store...ehem...donations for fertilization at a more opportune date? Handy trick, that.
Anyhow, loving the style & descriptive fleshing-out of this one, to say nothing of your gallery in general.

The snake exhibits are some of my favorite when I go to zoos, they're excellent study material.
In regards to your queries;
Hikki jaws are a blend of humanoid and serpentine, the lower jaw is fused in most members of the genus but is clearly two separate pieces, as seen here: [link]
They give birth to soft-shelled eggs which hatch within a few hours.
Due to the size of their eggs, my Hikki can have multiple births, but when more than one egg is fertilized, only one is carried to term at once. The others are stored in a separate uterine pouch till the first is birthed, then the next egg drops in and begins gestation.
Also, thanks for liking and asking intelligent questions!

Hot damn, that anatomical multi-view is snazzy & informative. For one thing, it neatly answers an, ehem, plumbing-related question that was on the tip of my...well, fingertips. On a halfway-related note, does Hikki metabolism skew mammalian or reptilian?

I don't think I've ever intentionally drawn an unattractive lady, I'm not going to start now! Thank you for liking her, I put a lot of effort into this pic and am glad it turned out the way it did!

Might want some scutes on her ventral surfaces to give her body purchase, but this is one of the most believable, non-self-conscious lamias I've yet seen.

The only reason I don't draw things like that is because it's difficult to get them consistently spaced without them looking like they're just painted on. Also; I think of my reptilian species as having skin that's a blend of scales and soft mammalian skin, the skin on the underside of her "tail" would be much like that on the soles of your feet.

Probably not, actually. The way a Hikki's skeletal-muscular system works, they end up having very strong backs.

JazzLizard In reply to BacchanaliaCorp [2012-12-28 05:15:46 +0000 UTC]
They're commonly called nagas or lamias, but my species is called hikki (pronounced hick-kai) since they have a very different background and origin than most snake-ladies. Definitely try your hand at drawing them, I've got tons in my gallery and don't mind being used as a reference!

Well with my Hikki, they can get pregnant while they're already pregnant, it all depends on the timing. She's married though, so I doubt she'd be fooling around with someone other than her mate.
