Description Wamas are by far one of the most wide spread alien life forms that mankind has encountered amongst the stars. One of the first prehabitable worlds discovered by human settlers was named Grove, for the massive trees that covered most of its surface. Upon landing on the planet, it quickly became obvious to its settlers that they were not the first visitors to the world, as all of the five to six-hundred foot tall trees blanketing the planet were planted in a massive grid pattern. Further exploration of the forest lead to the discovery of numerous immense stone structures. Made up of five tall granite pillars in an elongated pentagon shape, these structures showed signs of having material added to them over time, to ensure that they always protruded through the canopy and were visible from the air.

Three weeks after landing on Grove, the colonists detected a number of large objects entering orbit, then descending over the planet. Huge, spindly spaceships floated down over the trees, and lowered slender landing-legs onto the stone skyscrapers, gently touching down. These ships extended several appendages into the surrounding trees, and the colonist militia who went to investigate found the foliage around them inundated with small animals. These curious creatures seemed more interested with the plump violet fruits the trees were bearing than the human colonists, but this changed within minutes of their arrival.

The wamas, as they were soon found to be called, were collecting fruit from the trees and feeding them into vacuum chutes hanging from their ships, scurrying at a breakneck pace. Several ran down the trees to investigate their guests, and more began to explore the camp and its large colony ship. The human settlers found the wamas to be friendly and curious, but rather mischievous and intelligent, especially when in larger numbers. Later studies would go on to show that a group of wamas intelligence climbs dramatically with the more individuals there are present. Short-range radio frequencies are generated by the wamas nervous systems and brains, and when in close proximity to one another, each wama acts as a processor in a larger unit.

This first encounter was the start of a fruitful relationship between the human and wama people, and was truly the start of the Cave-Grove rebellion. The humans of the planet Grove traded with the wamas for their advanced technology which would result in their unique rocket designs and Castleships. Wamas would also go on to play a pivotal role in the final battles of the Second Psychic War, using their miniaturized equipment to drop the powerful shield arrays that were protecting the Imperial City on Earth. Wamas also acted as mediators in negotiating relations between Earth and Midden.

Biological specs:
Wamas have no bones, their entire bodies are supported by cartilage and protected by a tough shell on their backs. Their brains are split between their eye-stalks, and the dense nervous fibers running the length of their legs and bodies produce short-range radio frequencies that the wamas use to not only communicate, but to share mental "processing power", becoming more intelligent as a unit. Their legs are completely covered in traction-pads which enables them to literally run up walls, branches and limbs, and carry objects at any orientation. They're a very old species, and had been exploring and farming worlds for over ten-thousand years.

On a side note, wamas are the oldest of my creations, my brother and I came up with them while bored as kids. And, you can make them with your hands!
First, fold your thumb against your palm. Then, drop your index and pinkey fingers to act as legs, and raise your middle and ring finger for the eyes. TAH DAH

you're welcome, its probably because i am quite childish and therefore the idea of snail creatures you can make with your hands appeals to me. dont get me wrong though , i love your more serious/adult work too!

The wamas know how to turn solid gold into cookies. It's knowledge like that that make them such good allies.

I don't think wamas have ever been referred to as "folks" before.

interesting little critters, these wamas are. i can see where the inspiration might have come from (hands, snails etc) and are actually quite cute.

JazzLizard In reply to ArcherBoy [2010-12-08 21:10:08 +0000 UTC]

Mhmm, they've had plenty of time to evolve over the years. The original story was that they were mutated hermit crabs that were altered by a radioactive meteorite, but that was kinda silly.

ArcherBoy In reply to JazzLizard [2010-12-08 21:25:32 +0000 UTC]

lol. yes it would be a bit clichΓ© with the radioactive meteorite story. lol

I've got years of practice of making them with my hands. Although this is the first time drawing them in this style, I've also been drawing them a lot over the years.

Do they have a spoken language?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

JazzLizard In reply to triadenforcer [2010-12-08 13:27:14 +0000 UTC]

Yes and no, they communicate amongst one another using body language at distance, and when close via their biological wi-fi network. The entire fleet had learned fluent english within six hours of encountering humans, as the millions of wamas in proximity to the colony picked up countless words, and the collective was able to understand and translate them in no time at all.

I love them!!! Awesome description of them, I like how they are gently and like farming. And something that's kinda neat is I have creatures I've always made my hands in too! Haha. Mine are different though - your thumb and pinky are the back legs, and the pointer and ring finger are the front legs, and the middle finger is the head with a long snout kinda like an aardvark I guess lol. They can also stand on their back legs, cause they like dancing with each other and holding hands, and they sing too Well.... lip sync maybe is more accurate X)
Whoa long tangent. Anyways I love your Wamas!

XD, I won't hide the fact that yes, they're modeled after human hands. But that can all be explained by the whole Vief's Shadow mythos.
