Day 7 - Clear Skies

Day - 9

"Yesterdays blizzard took us completly by suprise after the goregous day (and night!) of yesterday. I was not prepared to travel in the sort of storm that roared on throughout the day and night and the visibility would be so bad that it would be dangerous to venture on for us anyway. While the others might be starting on the descent already, we are just nearing the highest point of our journey due to the Slow Start  so it would be madness to climb the peaks in these winds! By went another day wasted, we found a good sheltered spot to set up camp and this gave me a good chance to check all the horses. Saikhan  and Malibu  where both in top shape and Manix  was now 100% fully recovered from the injury so i figured he'd be my next mount, since i had been using Malibu for the whole climb."

Today it cleared up again. Still a bit windy but the visability was good so i saddled Manix and we continued our way over the top of the mountain. With this weather, the views we got where a real treat! After a few hours i saw some heavier clouds aproaching but decided to just head on and meet the snow head on, the sooner we where in it the sooner we would get out i figured. About 25 minutes later we where in the middle of a light snowstorm. Nothing too bad, just a bit cold and wet. Visability was pretty poor but i focused on a smal black dot on the top of an incline so i wouldn't lose my orientation. Thinking it was an exposed piece of rock, we rode straight towards it. When i got closer it was clear that this was a very very big piece of exposed rock. Only fromabout 20 meters away i noticed that the rock moved! Must've been the storm blurring my vision i thought, but after a few meters Manix started to act weird. Like he was seeing ghost infront of us. Then i focused on the rock again and noticed that it was hairy and alive! At first i could not believe that i could be actually within a few meters of a youngmuskox bull who wandered into the mountains, but surely after i got my head wraped around the idea that it could be possible, there was no doubt that i indeed was within a few meters of the heaviest animals to roam these mountains!"
