Description When that McDonald’s opened in Moscow in 1990, there were lines around the building so massive that they really did need crowd control barriers. That was the inspiration I needed for this story. Apparently, the Russian people couldn’t wait to have their first heart attacks.

Can you tell that Joel is reading a Russian-English dictionary in the last panel there? It’s another one of those tiny details that got reduced to almost nothing when I resized the strip.

I could tell it was a translation book first seeing it, it didn't lose too much in shrinkage

Assumption goes that he uses a translation book, since A: he doesn't know russian and B: Smartphones weren't a thing back then.
Also fun how they get the "best" american toilet washers xD
