As I suspected, Big Hero 6 is a ton of fun. Fantastic characters, really interesting universe, unbelievable action - go see it if you haven’t yet (and stay after the credits!) Of course, me being me, I didn’t waste any time banging out the usual underwater fan art.
The Disney artists put lots of fascinating real world science in this movie – pretty much everything you see Wasabi, Honey, GoGo, and Tadashi working on at Nerd School is based on stuff that’s actually being developed in science labs all over the world as we speak. That reminded me of a news article I read recently about a team of scientists in Denmark who are developing these things called “Aquaman crystals” that can absorb oxygen from water and filter it to make it breathable. If they can mass-produce the things, scuba gear will essentially become obsolete, and people will literally be able to breathe underwater.
So here’s Honey Lemon and GoGo Tomago testing out this amazing chemistry experiment for themselves. Honey’s a little reluctant to let water go up her nose, but GoGo’s already so good at this that she can blow an underwater bubblegum bubble. Science rules!

Oh, man, that movie was great. I wasn't even expecting to like it, with the whole "from the makers of Frozen" thing. Of course, they did mention Wreck-It Ralph, too... lol

No, but there is a brief underwater scene of a different sort - while the gang is attempting to flee Yokai and his army of killer microbots, Wasabi accidentally drives their car off a pier and into the ocean. Everyone struggles to get out as the car sinks to the bottom, but luckily, they grab onto Baymax and use him as a flotation device

Something somewhat similar to this concept was actually developed during the early 60s. I remember as a youngster seeing in Life magazine a picture of a mouse breathing in some kind of oxygenated liquid. The caption noted something to the effect of, "It's not very much fun for the mouse...", seeing as it took immense effort to move liquid into and out of its lungs, as opposed to air.

It's funny how you bring up how these grad students were developing technologies also beign developed worldwide. Baymax himself was based off an actual robot.
I even saw something in Japan that looks very much like an invisibility cloak. XD

I just assumed these were your own characters. I guess you drew them in your own style, obviously, but there's so much about them that seems to be coming straight out of the worlds you've built.

Why not? For a film that is centered around heroes that use science and technology to fight evil, CGI is rather appropriate.

i know i posted that comment 2 years ago. but i'm gonna hold to 2D instead. correction i don't mind cgi as long as it's only for movies that work with it. rebooting a classic like inspector gadget crosses the line.

Because it's just part of Disney's current agenda to abandon 2D animation and make everything be CGI, and if you feel opposed to that like me then take my advice: these current movies of theirs aren't worth our time.

Seriously, I've had enough of you leaving your bitter unprovoked anti-CGI rants on all my Disney fan art. I don't care if you hate Disney's computer animated movies or not - just stop trying to shove it in everyone's face. You're annoying everybody and you're accomplishing nothing.

He's pretty civil most of the time, but mention any of Disney's non-hand-drawn animated movies around him and he goes into berserk mode. And if you mention that you like them, he'll never stop harassing and insulting you about it. You can be this guy's friend, but if you liked Wreck-It Ralph or Zootopia, suddenly you're dead to him.

No offense, but I don't think I can continue to bear through your Disney art if it's all just going to be based on those dang CG movies with you gushing over how "good" you think they are. I suppose when the next movie in their big CG agenda comes out you'll be talking about how good that movie is too, while I have to keep calling them out for throwing away 2D animation.

I'm sorry, man. That's what's making this so difficult. I hate seeing Disney turn away from 2D animation for CGI, and I openly say so all the time, so it's very hard to see people that you like wanting to praise them for it. I guess we can't be any more different when it comes to modern day Disney animation. You love what they're making, and I just feel like wanting to strangle them for it.
Besides, I can't browse the net or walk into a store anymore without seeing Frozen junk everywhere, so excuse me if I have to lose it from that.
