Off the Deep End isn't really a project with a narrative anymore - it's just become my go-to universe for depicting impossible underwater scenarios whenever inspiration strikes. This time, it came at me from this goofy music video from New Zealand I discovered on YouTube: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AUJsPi… Just a few seconds in, I was like "This is absolutely something Spencer and his friends would do."

I already have one rock band among my original characters, but I always thought it'd be interesting if Spencer's little clique started one too. Back when I was tinkering with concepts for a non-underwater version of this series, that was a story arc I legitimately considered doing. In the increasingly strange underwater world that Spencer and his friends inhabit, a world of bubbly kid logic where they can stay underwater indefinitely and understand bubble-talk fluently, it doesn't seem like much of a leap to think that submerged electronics would still work just fine. So with that said, meet the Bubbleheads! Spencer, Kyle, Brenda, and Jasmine's first rehearsal is going great, from the looks of things. They may be amateurs, but when you're underwater, who can even tell?
