Description
One thing I know I have to do if I want to get "Toon Town" off the ground is create a good introductory story. I've got plenty of others all fleshed out, but I needed one that introduced the premise and the characters without being devoid of plot. The other night, I sketched this drawing of Cleft, Ken, and O'Hare, and it all began to come together...

At the Gryphon Pictures studio in 1945, eccentric director George Frederickson requires a new antagonist for his next Ken Kangaroo cartoon, one who will be a bigger threat. Studio head Lawrence Schlembauer holds a 'toon casting call, and the part goes to muscle-bound Cleft Rockpile. Ken makes an effort to befriend his new costar, but all his attempts at friendliness are construed by Cleft as pure annoyance. It eventually leads Cleft to openly despise Ken both on and off the set, and it's up to Ken's best friend Commander O'Hare to figure out how to smooth things out between the two before Ken gets himself killed.

Assuming that "Toon Town" becomes a comic book (which is the direction I'm leaning towards), this sketch will likely serve as the inspiration for the first issue's cover.
