Description Special Guest DiD sketch; Pencil & Paper and Photoshop COLOR.

This is a full color version of "Interrupted Rehearsal". I don't know if I will continue to do many colored versions of my sketches, but thanks to many out there giving advice, I decided to go for it in earnest.

Here are my coloring notes:

I used 3 tools in particular: Polygonal Lasso to select areas to color, Airbrush to color, and Eraser to erase outside of the lines afterward. I placed most regions/items in their own layer, but I combined different items in some layers out of convenience. I must say that the most time consuming item is coloring everything individually and then having to erase outside of the lines...since I am new at this, it makes me wonder if there is a way, once you have colored something, to select within you lines, and then just erase around the selection much like the way that I airbrushed. I also don't know how to get the graduated coloring effect easily, like what I wanted to do on Helena's thigh.

The scene is pretty much how I imagined it, although I didn't decide on the colors of the side of the curtain stage wall until last minute. Helena is warming up and "The Phantom" surprises her. I didn't originally plan for the spotlighting, but it was a lot easier to do than I though, so I went for it. I wish I knew an easy way to color the stage floor and the curtains to make them look more realistic.

I strongly encourage critique of the coloring, and ALL feedback and ideas are welcome! If you thought I was new at sketching, well, I am REALLY new at coloring! I bet I will do another one, but I may wait until I have more knowledge. Photoshop is pretty powerful, but I know that I didn't tap into hardly anything that it can do.

Well, I am only planning on coloring my better sketches, and then only if I improve on coloring. It takes me an incredible amount of time right now.

I am with you. I love the struggling aspect, but only if it is desperate style, and not POed style.

DiD's that spend all of their distress time POed are....meh.

Thanks for the comment, WS!!!

Nice coloring. And I'm interested in some tricks for easy colouring, too.

I am still learning...a few dAers have given some pointers, but I still have a long way to go if I want this to look anything passable.

You're close...she will be performing, but what you get is something titled "Hogtied & Gag Struggle"

The coloring is just amazing. I'm no expert in it myself (as if that wasn't evident), but I'd say you got a great start!

You had the same problem I had when I started coloring. How familiar are you with Photoshop? It sounds like this is the first time you've used it.

Basically, there do exist ways to make coloring easier and cleaner, so that you don't have to erase outside the lines.

Try looking into the magic wand selection tool.
Also if you want, you can redo the line art 100% using the path tool.
Finally, there is "locking transparent pixels". I use this method now. Each layer has the option of locking transparent pixels. That means areas of the layer that are transparent can NOT be colored in.

I'd like to offer a useful critique, but my knowledge of proper colouring technique is zilch.

It DOES look like you've come a long way since your last one, though. I quite liked this abduction scenario - the Phantom of the Opera-type dealie is something I always thought should see a little more play.
